Sounds awesome. I look forward to seeing how they do! Make sure you take plenty of pics! It might take a few weeks before I can get that game actually happening but I definetly will ! And I’ll take photos

I use Brets as blood knights. I also purchased a box of HE dragon princes to make some more. If I didn’t already have enough Brets I’d be using them...does anyone want to trade for these? There are some great pics online of dragon princes as BK.

One plus to Bloodknights is that they dominate monsters. Iirc they are the only Strength 7 on the charge cavalry in the game. So long as their initiative is better they have a great chance of gibbing most monsters on the charge.
I don't play VC often anymore (shifted my undead preferences desert way) but quite often used to use a unit of 5 Bloodknights (only had the 5 metal models and loved the look) so got relatively experienced with them. I had a couple of huge game moments with them where they actually made unlikely charges vs Empire/Bret knights and absolutely cleaned up with the attacks/ws/armor modifier. One of my more fond memories is making a not so great sport player rage quit after the Bloodknights single handedly crushed then ran down his 15 unit knight block including his general.
I'm not sure if we played this right of even if itst still doable but I had one of the most amazing Warhammer plays to my credit in a 4k plus points game where my blood knights were down to just the champion and standard bearer stuck in a combat they were sure to lose. I thought... F it.. fortune favours the bold and charged/sacrificed Vlad Von Carstein out of his bunker relying on the Von Carstein ring to revive him. Did the Vlad combat first and as I was expecting/counting on he 'died'. Rolled the 2+ on the Von Carstein ring and per my skavenesque ploy resurrected Vlad into the unit of Bloodknights who had yet to fight. Vlad fought first in that combat and resurrected the 3 dead Bloodknights (we may have played that wrong but it made for a brilliant game moment)....adding an additional 9 Ws 5, Strength 5 attacks which then fought at the next initiative step after Vlad. This swung the combat.....Vlad and the Bloodknights feasted well that day.
So with a bit of luck avoiding higher initiative things which can hurt them, shooting and magic they can be absot devastating. Not imo worth the points due to 1 wound only but an amazingly cool unit that lives up to their lore reputation.
If I am playing against VC and I see they have a unit of Bloodknights....that becomes my number 1 priority...over Terrorgheists and everything. This is due to my time/experience using them and knowledge of both how devastating they can be if they hit a favourable combat and how easy they are to take down as only 1 wound, toughness 4 models.
Fun fact.... Bloodknights hate Swordmasters in a head to head match up. Quite possibly one of the very worst matchups for them. Charge strength bonus is wasted 100%, their high WS and initiative is wasted completely and unless the dice gods are super favourable they will come off second best every time.

That's a great analysis with some good examples backing it up!

My only feedback (three things) is: 1). I love the look and feel of this unit on a battlefield. 2). I have seen a unit of 5 Blood Knights straight up "go on a blender", killing machine! On their own without a Vampire character, through 2 medium sized (15 to 25) units of R&F Beastmen. Blood Knights hit hard. 3). They are uber weak to the right kind of opposing shooting attacks. i.e. high S, no armor save, Blood Knights still only have 1 W/ea Sad Panda --I have seen a unit of Ushabti with Great Bows kill a bunch, mostly because the Ushabti had the "double tap" augment spell turned on --I have seen Elf repeater (multi shot) both throwers rip through a unit as well... long range, high S, no armor saves, EEeeeep!

So, basically, if you are facing an army with Bolt Throwers, get at them quick!

I do like Blood Knights. They are one of the few undead units which are going to actually do some proper killing. gregwarhamsters summarises my feelings in general. They can march outside the bubble. They kill stuff. They need to be dealt with so will get shot (you can however use this to your advantage by having other stuff not shot at..) However the forced overruns are a problem. I would personally not put my blender Vampire in with them, he will end up running his bubble away from your main line. They do not really need any hard hitting support (you can always throw in a mini vampire if you really feel the need), they are already vampiric, and you would just be painting the biggest bullseye in the world on the unit.

Right. Given that they might end up away from the battle line I sometimes put a cheap vampire in there with Invocation for healing purposes. But then that gets really expensive too.

Especially as you're only healing the single wound

Whilst I have not played with any knights for ages, in a bid to protest the investment, whether it is a 4-5 strong flanker, or a central unit with characters I would run them behind a wolf shield to give them a bit more of a chance to survive. This obviously becomes irrelevant against Tomb Kings, Wood Elves with True Flight, and magic missiles; you would then need to adopt other strategies.
Thinking about it a little further, for me, I would base the design of my army around the Blood knights if they are the main unit/central theme. 50 wolves (or more perhaps if you have them - I only have 50) in various formations (4 X 5, 2 X 15 perhaps) and a mixture of vargheists, hexwraiths and perhaps black knights will create a very fast hard hitting (but classic glass hammer) army. The majority of the army should/could be in combat by turn two, hopefully limiting the shooting damage taken. It certainly will give you opponent plenty of targets to think about.

was reading this topic9i know it's from several years ago...) But with the upcoming release of new plastic Blood knights (that aren't as expensive as one thought they would be) this topic will be relevant again soon perhaps, I'm very new to WFB 8th ed all of my friends play it still so I'm joining the band so to speak...

Ah, this thread makes me long for my VC army. I converted my Brets into my black knights and converted empire units into zombies, I literally had 100+ zombies, used to really freak people out seeing the horde shamble across the board. Then I raised even more zombies.
