So what's everyone's opinion on the Demis?
3 and only musician or 4 and full command?
Do you only flank charge or also full frontal charges?

1. As I pointed out when they were released: since GW put them in a box of three, the optimum unit size must be > 3. That said 4 is probably the optimum size, 3 works well enough. Above 4, the unit becomee far too unwieldy in a single rank, and in two ranks, the unit loses much of its punch in CC, and provides more targets to war machines and template spells.
2. The command group as such is relatively cheap, but it depends on how many points you have to spare. - The musician is a must for me: 10 pts for Swift Reform, victory/no loss in case of a tie, and +1 to rally is a bargain! - The Preceptor will give you a single S6/S4 attack and can take challenges: very useful for 10 points, if you have spare points. - The Standard Bearer: it will give you +1 CR, but the big drawback is that if the units ever breaks, he is auto-slain and an extra 68 points go down the drain. You need to ensure that the BSB is in range; the Gleaming Pennant could help here.
3. Depends. The DGK are arguably our best unit, but there are many better enemy units out there. Apart from these, the DGK can conduct frontal charges against most enemy units. However, do not let them get tied up in a grinding match. They are also very good for supporting flank charges against those superior enemies.

I think that 4 usually works best for me. If I go that route, I'll also add in a command unit because I'm going to be wanting this unit to do quite a bit of hammering for me and anything extra that can benefit that, is useful.
If I take a unit of 3, then they are not going to be a main focus of my army, but rather, a secondary force useful for presenting a threat in another portion of the battlefield. In this case, I'll add a musician, but nothing else.
It has been my experience that once you get down to two Demis, they don't do much to help win the battle other than handling very small units or war machines. That's why I usually take 4. It's a big threat that can hit hard, is quite survivable and simply can't be ignored.
