Looks good to me. I have to say I never quite got the hounds though. Not sure if they are worth the points (or perhaps could never fit them in) or am I missing something?

Ok that makes it clearer 😀. I need to find some alternative hounds though as have the 5th edition version and he didn’t come with any.

I've only used Orion the once - he smashed half a Dark Elf army, but ended the game with just a single wound. He causes an immense amount of damage, but is incredibly fragile. I'd say the hounds are vital - 20 points may seem a lot, but for adding an extra couple of wounds to a 600 point unit, it's worth it.
It was a few years ago I used him, so I can't remember much of my list, but I definitely also went with two Wild Rider units.
You could try a mobile Lore of Life caster to follow him around and restore wounds with the lore attribute, but the lore isn't great for low level casters so it's probably not worth it. The double Miasma from your shadowsingers should help to hinder any BS-based shooting that may target him.

What’s the range on ice shard blizzard, I see the other danger being war machines so neutralising them might also be key

So I think that a unit benefitting from Orions devastating charges is captain on a great stag. I also think it's fluffy to include not sure how to get the points though. Would like to field two Stag Rider Captain Great Stag, Shield, Asrai Spear, Armor of Destiny Or Great Stag, Asrai Spear, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield” Also think packing a BSB will benefit all the frenzy units with rerolls.

It's good to have something (aside from the Hounds/Orion themselves) that benefits from Devastating Charge, as the Wild Riders obviously have it already and there's not much else in the way of decent combat units that can keep up.
Helm of the Hunt is the iconic Stag Rider magic item, but obviously pointless in this case as you'll get Devastating Charge anyway. I think the Armour of Destiny option is better than having the Charmed Shield (your unit can take the hit most the time). Glittering Scales/Sword of Might could be an interesting combo if against low Leadership armies who might fail their Fear tests, but I don't think it's a better choice.
Drop the Glade Captain on foot for him, mount your Spellsingers, and drop the Glade Guard + Eternal Guard for Glade Riders, and you've got a full-on Wild Hunt.

Would warhawks benefit from the devastating charge? Another 3 killing blow attacks are nothing to be sniffed at.

Yes.
Wood Elves AB p. 55: At the start of each turn, the Horn of the Wild Hunt grants the Devastating Charge special rule to Orion, his unit, and all friendly Wood Elf units within 6". This lasts until the end of that turn.

The answer as to whether to include a captain on a great stag is always YES!!! Perfect for an Orion army.

Nice!
I do miss that when they redid the WE book for 8th that they did away with the special rule for Orion that made Wild Riders core if he was the General. My first WE army was an Orion army one year for Adepticon and I have 24 of the metal Wild Riders painted (4 units of 6) and it is almost impossible to use them all now unless I can find someone to play a really huge game.

Jim That would be soo sweet! I only have 21 😂 5 of the old metal that I do like. Still, need to paint 9 and repaint 5.
