Or There and Back Again or Journey of Trying to Get My Boyz Finally Painted. Let's start with some older photos I managed to salvage before some previous forums went belly up. Most of these are unfortunately smaller pics and/or taken with a potato, but anyway in the process of at least somewhat repainting them so I'll need new photos soon anyway! First, a small horde of night goblins: Couple of Big'Uns: Then some Black Orcs: Now this part is a bit boaring: And for last, Tor-Björn Akkurat - my somewhat trusty and somewhat sober giant:

Your potato took pretty good photos Everything looks really nice. Excellent shot of the boarboys and Gorbad. The banner is very evocative and captures the emotion of their crazy charge.

Wow! Those are some stunning pics! I love the NG horde! I need to see some close-up images of those shields! How did you achieve that? That Orc Boy Banner is awesome as well! You did a great job on the rough-hewn look on those blades as well! What's your formula for the wood on the Giant's barrel? That looks perfect!
Looking forward to more!

Cheers all! The shields are self-made transfers applied on screw caps that were left over from an earlier DIY project. In case someone wants to use/print/edit/whatever them, I'll the picture below. The wood grain pattern is from old GW plastic orc shield and the patterns/shading are just semi-transparent blocks of color I added either on Photoshop Elements or Pixlr, can't remember which. Mind you, can easily alter the color with Hue tool on almost any graphics program - or if you're like me and decide to change color to red *after* applying the transfers, just paint over them. The barrel - I used some older Vallejo/Citadel paints on it but I'm certain similar colors can be found from current range: Scorched Brown base -> Brown Wash all over -> Snakebite Leather drybrush -> Kommando Khaki lighter drybrush

I can only echo what others have said - they look great, and I'm looking forward to seeing more greenskins. I'm going to be painting an O&G army soon, and I'd be happy for them to look half as good as yours.

That's a pretty smart trick, using those transfers like that! They look incredible! Looks like you might've drybrushed on a little brown to "dirty" them up a bit. That really helps them look authentic!
That's what I guessed was the barrel combo, but I just wanted to be sure.
Thanks for indulging my numerous questions! I like to have good ideas shared among our crew!

WIP shot of what's coming next on the Orcish front. Also a small incursion of Chaos that's hindering my progress a bit on the O-and-G at the moment...

Those are done pretty much in the same way as in Jakob Rune Nielsen's tutorial, except with me just substituting the "Tamiya plus Friends" wash with Nuln Oil and Reikland Fleshshade.

Late to the party but those shields are epic! I’m blown away by those (the colour helped 😀). Thanks for sharing the prints.

After a small hiatus due to some renovation of our home (and more importantly, my painting station area...), here is WIP photo of the All Blacks unit. 17 of them currently in the Almost Finished state (mostly just bases), still about 10 to do, depending on whether I make the unit 25 or 30 strong and/or how big of a unit filler I end up making. Side note: I'm convinced that one of the biggest reasons people moved from Warhammer to Age of Sigmar was to get rid of trying desperately to rank up orcs on 25mm bases...

Wow! Love the freehand banner! That's the one thing that can give an army a truly unique touch! Are you freehanding the red and black checkered pattern too? Because, if so, you're doing an amazing job keeping them uniform! I'd love to know how you're doing it! 😊
