Hi guys,
Here is a quick report of a battle I played last week-end with my Nurgle buddy.
We used the end times scenario of the battle of Marienburg as a base, and we took some liberties here and there
(I used Karl Franz ascendant which was not really supposed to be there story-wise, and we did not follow the street of death rules).
In this scenario, an alliance of Empire and Vampire counts armies are facing the legions of Chaos led to battle by the Glottkins in the city of Marienburg.
We used the end times lord allowance of 50%, but did not use the end times magic rules.
We agreed on 4200pts limit for each army, Empire and Vampire counts counting as a single, combined army.
My lord choices were as below:
-Karl Franz ascendant
-Mounted Empire General
-Blender Vampire lord
Legion of chaos lord choices were:
-The Glottkins
-A great unclean one
I had to deploy my whole army first, and Chaos deployed second, having to stay within 12" of any enemy unit.
Chaos had the first turn.
To summarize, it was a really fun and epic battle.
My feeling is that GW really went over the top with Karl Franz ascendant,
he is god-like overpowered with his 10 attacks that automatically wound with no armor saves allowed and D3+1 damage.
I'll let you see for yourself and enjoy the photos.
My all time favorite unit of 28 grave guards with blender lord and Wight king BSB.
A block of 30 skeleton warriors for tarpit.
A block of 30 zombies for tarpit.
One black coach.
A unit of 12 inner circle knights with empire general, empire captain BSB and warrior priest.
Two units of 3 demigryph knights.
The Glottkins.
Karl Franz ascendant was deployed right in the center, with the grave guards unit as his personal escort.
The left flank was pretty strong, with the inner circle knights and a unit of demigryph in support.
Here is a look at the whole table after deployment. The right flank was a little weak from my side, and I knew I would have a hard time defending here.
On Chaos turn 1, the great unclean one advanced towards the center with two units of chaos warriors.
On the right flank, a unit of 4 Chaos trolls marched to meet the demigryph knights.
In the first magic phase, a Nurgle spell killed 4 inner circle knights. I was off to a bad start...
On Empire/VC turn 1, Karl Franz decided to lead by example and charged the great unclean one head on,
followed by the grave guards who managed to get another charge off into the Chaos warriors.
On the left flank, the inner circle knights got a charge into a block of plaguebearers, but did very little damage.
They would end up being stuck there for the remaining of the battle.
The plaguebearers were standing strong against the knights, successfully passing a lot of their 5+ demonic saves.
Back in the center, the grave guards and the blood thirsty vampire lord cut through the Chaos warriors without taking too many casualties,
making them run but failing to catch them short of an inch.
Chaos warriors running for their lives...
The fight between Karl Franz and the great unclean one was raging.
Here's a view of the table by turn 2.
The skeleton warriors charged the blightkings, trying to delay them as long as possible.
The great unclean one held the Emperor long enough for the chaos warriors to come in support with a flank charge.
But Karl Franz unleashed his fury on the daemonic abomination, and won the fight on the second round of combat.
After killing the great unclean one, Franz was able to reform to face the new threat of Chaos warriors,
allowing the zombies to get a decisive flank charge off.
On the right flank, the black coach did a desperate attempt at charging another unit of plaguebearers.
Unable to cause enough damage, the chariot crumbled.
The demigryph knights got charged by the Chaos trolls but held their ground and fought valiantly.
Back in the center, the grave guards killed the remaining Chaos warriors and reformed, getting ready for a potential charge of the Glottkins.
Here was the situation in the center, after Franz and the battle-hardened zombies killed the last Chaos warriors.
The big players were getting ready for the final showdown.
The Glottkins got their charge off into the Emperor, who tightened his grip on Ghal Maraz, ready to swing.
The battle raged for a few turns. The Glottkins got a S10 hit with 1D6 wounds on the Emperor,
who was already wounded by his previous fights aginst the Great Unclean one and the Chaos warriors.
The match could have ended right here, but Chaos rolled a 3 on the damage count, getting Franz down to 2 wounds.
Meanwhile, the blightkings got another charge off into the grave guards.
The vampire lord and his elite warriors hit back ferociously and cut down a lot of the blightkings.
Getting into the last round of combat, any side could have been victorious.
With a fatal blow of Ghal Maraz, the Emperor triumphed, knocking the Glottkins down without mercy !
At this point, we agreed to end the battle.
Even though being victorious, the Empire had to sound the retreat (because this is how the narrative goes, isn't it ?)
We are planning to do 2 or 3 more battles like this, following the events of the second book of the End Times.
Seeyou for the next one !
