I would say 1200 points is not a very typical game though, it is particularly small and you almost have to reconsider tactics entirely Indeed yes but this is maximizing upp to 2400p and nothing special. Just saying it’s in a lot of cases easier to fit some rare hobos. We have very expensive lords and heroes. I say the Wolf Rider unit. The extra 'drop' is a very big deal, for one. Second, under 8th edition, I just don't see the practical use of a lone hero on a Wolf. A unit of Hobgoblin wolf riders are slightly more points, but have more wounds and more bow shots. Don't get me wrong...I think lone characters can be effective but they need a little punch & defense (a goblin big boss on gigantic spider, 3 wounds, 2+ armour save, 6 S4 attacks, poison attacks, stomp has a lot of uses). A 2 Wound Khan with a 4+ armour save just dies.
I've fought against Chaos Dwarf armies with multiple Khans on Wolves and merely ignore them (shrug) and if they got in my way killed them (shrug).

Wolf Riders themselves are not actually especially cheap and come from the Rare allocation. I think khans coming from hero section hurts as much as wolfs coming from rare. One castellon and a deamonsmith usually fill up the hero section pretty fast. If running a tauruk there is no room for the khans. Last little(1200p) game (big loss against Lizzie’s) I had 5 points left in hero section and 200p left in rare. I would say 1200 points is not a very typical game though, it is particularly small and you almost have to reconsider tactics entirely Indeed yes but this is maximizing upp to 2400p and nothing special. My games are played at 3000 points and as such I can't imagine approaching the 750 points allotment of heroes. On the other hand, the rare section is a completely different beast as two hellcannons and a Destroyer weigh in at a whopping 745 points! In the case of dual Destroyers, there would be enough points for some wolf riders, but as I've said, I can't imagine exceeding the hero section point allotment, but I always find that I run out of rare points (dual Destroyers + a Hellcannon would be nice!).

NIGHTBRINGER yes I can understand that so I think point limits factor a lot if you run khans or riders. So its more an argue where in your list do you have the points left then which is the better unit if stats/points value.

I can definitely see how in small games, hero points would fill up very quickly. I hadn't really thought of it before because I always play at 3000 points.
