It's been a while since I've posted on EEFL, mainly because I've not taken new army pictures yet for several of my newly painted models, but until I do that I have played several new games! I've started up an army blog on Ulthuan and have 3 games up on it so far and a further 2 will be played this weekend. Here's the link! Comments are appreciated!

Well, I've not really got a go-to build just yet, this blog is more about my first journeys into running a Dragonlord since I've been taking so long to get one painted. Only the last two reports actually feature one, the previous 4 are about building up the rest of the list and getting used to using the supporting units. My current build, which I think I'll use for a while since I like it quite a bit is:
Prince mounted on Star Dragon w/ Star Lance, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Preservation, The Other Trickster's Shard
It comes in exactly at 625 points. The rider only has a 3+ armor which isn't that good, but the 4++ should keep him alive for a while as his main purpose is to use the OTS to allow the Star Dragon's attacks to be as effective as possible. The Star Lance also adds some nice hitting power on the charge, particularly as it's ASF so it could let you kill something that could be dangerous to the Dragon before it gets to attack.

Have you tried any dragon mage builds? It’s not a lord though

I have tried several, but I've yet to find one I like. Or, more to the point, I've get to find a list-Dragon Mage combo that I like. I think the list has to be fairly well designed around using the Dragon Mage because it's a quite expensive model and yet it really doesn't hit that hard in CC. It also cannot be your only monster because a single T5 monster is too easy to kill. It's also in a strange place magic wise because while it casts very well it offers virtually no magic defense and has only two spells at best. I think it would be best used in a purely offensive list and I'd like to try running one again because I really think that it can work, I just haven't found out how to make it work yet.

Interesting Batrep here - I think one thing you forgot about here was putting down a resurrection counter for the Flamespyre when the Thundertusk killed it, but you still won anyway so it doesn't matter too much Interesting to see the Thundertusk and Mournfangs had square bases rather than round if Filipo had got a Beastclaw SC box, although maybe he had spares or bought them off EBay. Nicely painted too! Great to see the random inclusion of 10 Gnoblars as a suicide unit just for the fun of it amidst all those super-powerful units, and I thought it was pretty funny in a way that they actually were able to be a bit of a nuisance rather than just going in there and getting killed without accomplishing anything. Whenever I play a game involving my Night Goblins and they somehow do far better than expected, we deem them worthy of getting medals - that tiny band of Gnoblar heroes should be similarly honoured! All of this makes me wonder how I could defeat such an army with my Dwarfs considering that all my infantry units are relatively small - biggest units are 16 Longbeards and 16 Quarrellers - but I have some Slayers, a Cannon and an Organ Gun that would be pretty useful, as well as some Ironbreakers I haven't built yet. Been looking at runic combos as well this morning, and Master Rune of Valaya would be handy for my Hammerers' banner as it would give me +4 to all dispel attempts including the +2 for Natural Resistance - certainly if I can use this to stop Troll Guts and other annoying Ogre spells that'll help with overpowering their units.

I definitely did forget about the Phoenix counter, that's what I get for never playing with a Flamespyre.
He ordered custom bases from Green Stuff World I believe. I've got a very large supply of bases stashed away to swap out for the round bases in the new kits and repackaged kits. That also means I've got tons of spare round bases.
The Gnoblars were there to act as chaff I think, but that's a job that could have been done better by Sabretusks.
MSU Dwarves will have a problem with his Ogres, and I think will generally find most games challenging due to their extremely low movement and low initiative. Valaya is a nice rune for magical defense but I'd take two Runesmiths with runes of Spellbreaking first I think. Trollguts isn't all that dangerous to Dwarves because you can give your main CC unit flaming attacks through a banner and then you should have flaming on at least one warmachine to strip it in the shooting phase. An Organ Gun will rip and tear through anything, particularly the Mournfang, but you'll not have enough shots to take down the Bus on its own. A Cannon can deal with the Mournfang well too and I've seen cannons decimate Ogre buses if you manage to keep rolling 3+ on the wounds to knock down whole columns. Overall from what it sounds like you've got your biggest issue will be that none of your units can survive long in CC at all since they are so small, so you need to make sure you have a formidable gunline to ensure his units don't get to CC with anything more than scraps.

ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=70833&p=920700#p920700Two new reports up against Ogre Kingdoms with an infantry-based Star Dragon list! Also, if you scroll up farther you can see quick battle report summaries of my performance at Triple Crown 5. The event was great fun, my army didn't do very well, though, only placing 23/38.
