So this year I decided to again start a new army and again went with the opposite of anything I already had. So that meant Lizards and monsters, lots of monsters! Already I'm on par, paint wise, with last year's new army (Bret's), a shameful state of affairs but I hey it's a step in the right direction! So i'll start with the 'finished' model the oldblood on carnosaur and then I would like advice with some colours. As I said in the monthly painted thread, I've not done anything with the base as yet apart from paint it green so it at least wasn't unpainted when fielded. I also toyed with the idea of adding green tiger type stripes coming down from the spine. The next two shots are work in progress. My first question is what colour do people recommend to paint the skink riders. Green is the obvious choice and I know it will work. The second question is what colours do people suggest so break up the mass of purple on the Kroxigor. In case you hadn't guessed I want bold colours for the army!

With the purple on the Krox you could go for a bold and bright blue to bring out the detail such as the scales on the back? Or a bright golden yellow colour?

Can't go wrong with lots of monsters!
I like the idea of classic green for the skink riders.
I think a light grey will work well with the dark purple kroxigor.

They're looking great! Personally, I don't think the Carnosaur needs stripes. I know that's seen a lot in images of them, but I think the model is detailed enough that it doesn't need then. Maybe if you get a second one. I think you've done a lot of green and pink with your Wood Elves. Mix it up a bit. Blue, black, purple,... anything of a dark or cool tone will offset him nicely. THEN use a bright/hot color tone to do the highlighted details (head fin, scales, etc). As for the purple Krox, I agree, a gray would work nicely. Just be sure not to make him look dusty. (Easy to do with Gray.) I like to use Blues a lot just because there are more variations in shades of blue than any other color. So if you want a gradual gradation from dark to light, it'd be easiest with blue. But just like with the skink, I think you need to go opposite from what you've started with (dark, so light or bright). You might want to check out what some others on Lustria-Online have done. Something there might give you some inspiration. Here's a link to the Kroxigor page: www.lustria-online.com/threads/kroxigor.12697/

Very nice Kroq-Gar, and as grandmasterwang says, you can’t go wrong with a monster-heavy army!

Test base colour. Ignoring my unsteady hand I think i'm quite liking the yellow for the contrast.

The yellow certainly provides huge contrast!
That purple is so rich.

I would probably undercoat the yellow with off white first to build a foundation for the yellow if you have the time/feeling for it. Will lower the amount of time spent on covering with yellow

Will lower the amount of time spent on covering with yellow That’s because you are a man who puts far more effort than me into his paint jobs 😂. To be honest yellow isn’t too bad, especially if you don’t thin paint (yep guilty again). I tend to start with Averland Sunset, which is quite thick and gives a solid base coat (the pic is one coat so it shows how well it covers even dark colours) and then I’ll cover it with a lighter yellow (probably flash git or whatever GW 90’s yellow is still open...).

Lol, you kill me! You look at painting, the way I look at running a marathon!
I think you've picked some great colors! I'd personally take it further with some drybrushing, but you do you, man! I think they look really good though!

As it's only flock on PVA glue it's easy to scrape off and do something else down the line. P.S. I also hate running. Give me cycling or swimming over that any day

Drybrushing really helps bring out the scales on Lizardmen models.
