Normally just a lurker, but I'm excited to share some pictures as I start to get back into painting. Last time I painted, I may have been a senior in HS, or just graduated maybe...so I'm hoping to get some tips and pointers from ya'll! So I rolled out to GW recently, and picked up a handful of contrast paints. I have enjoyed painting with them so far, but I'm starting to think they shouldn't be the only thing you use. Any one else have experience with them? I'm going to just post some picks as I go along, any constructive criticism is appreciated! I have a decent sized Empire, and OnG armies, so as long as I stay with it, there will be plenty of content. Enjoy! **first up is the cannon!

Niceeeee. Were these done entirely in contrast paints? I don't know how I generally feel about them (probably because I'm naturally sceptical of people selling a "miracle" alternative). But then I think that I end up using a lot of washes on flesh and hair anyway!

gregr Yea, totally contrast. I have been thinking about grabbing some non-contrast to use as highlights for the clothes...or do what Saniles has suggested and get a lighter shade of contrast for the red and green and layer it.

Alright, just added these to the collection. I'll see if layering the contrasts will add some highlights to the uniform...I'll post pictures!

I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes and if it is easier to paint in the long run!

Amazing work if it’s the first time coming back! Oh that snake bit leather gives me such a fuzzy feeling I do like how the contrast turns out now just add som layers on top if you want If I had not just bough 600$ of scale75 paint I would look into this brand. If not all in on citadel. creaturecaster.store/us/product/pro-acryl-full-set/ mottdon (as you talked about testing new colors earlier) currently sold out but it will get back in stock.

I don't know what it was, but I got that fuzzy feeling too as soon as I started with it lol.
I'm about to try the contrast layering today, but I have a feeling putting some reg paint on top is gonna be the way. Hopefully I'm wrong!

Solid results from the Contrast paints. I like the puffy pants and how they came out.
What undercoat did you use?

grandmasterwang I used the Wraith Bone. I'd like to get a little more depth to it though...just got to try some different combos I guess lol

Copperpotmd... I confess that after our game and seeing how your cannon turned out I broke down and got several pots of the stuff. I blame you for this!

Progress is being made...slowly but surely. After the prime I re-based all of the metal with leadbelcher, then painted the wood with Wyldwood Contrast. Once that dried, I put on a layer of Bascillum Gray Contrast over the leadbelcher. Finally, added a little color to the side emblems. Tomorrow I plan on doing touch-ups, adding a darker layer of red on those tiny shields, and I think, leaving it at that. I'm starting to think those guys that paint before assembling may have been onto something though.

Sweet old helblaster. When you pick out the shield, maybe also spend a minute on the lionface front and center between the barrels. It's the last thing many an evildoer will see.
