Sweet old helblaster. When you pick out the shield, maybe also spend a minute on the lionface front and center between the barrels. It's the last thing many an evildoer will see. I was staring at it last night, trying to figure out what to do with it. Maybe I could re-base it, and go for a gold...but I'm not totally sold on that.

You don’t necessarily need to rebase it. Just need some other paints for highlighting. I’ll check my stuff. I probably have a gold I can bring up next month, if you don’t mind waiting. If not gold, I definitely have some brass or bronze colors for it

you could also put a wash/contrast paint on the current lion face, any brown/flesh tone will do, followed by a light drybrush with a bright silver.

I like that idea,, I think that would give it a nice pop without it looking out of place

So I've taken a break from the actual HBVG and started working on the crew. I'm trying to figure out how to add a little more, I guess, highlights, with the contrast colors, so good a darker green to bring out the lighter one. Well, thinking I went a little dark lol. But I brought up a question... can this green work for a hochland-esque color scheme? Or is it a bit too dark?

Personally I think it is a nice green to use as a base but I would layer a lighter highlight on top

Got a little caught up with interviews and school! I have done a little bit of work on my mortar and crew. The monster was done with exactly 3 colors, Wyldwood Contrast, Leadbelcher, and Bascillum Gray. I need to grab some finer brushes...I'm thinking army painter...as I don't have anything with the control or bristle size for touch ups. Slowly working on the Crew right now, only flesh and red completed, wondering if I'm like the dark angels for the green, or if I should go two coats of creed camo. I thi k the creed...the darkangels is dark enough for me to go over anything that I don't like.

I think trying the dark angels over corax white might be worth a shot. I changed up the primer on a few of my rats, as you already know, and I think it really made the basilicanum grey a lot better for grey rats

These are looking great. I haven't tried the contrast paints yet, but I'm ramping up assembly to start painting a bunch of dwarfs. How much time would you say you're spending painting per model? Do you go back with "solid" paints / metallics for highlights? Or is this all contrast only?

I haven't gone back over with any solids yet, but I plan to, to add highlights where needed. As for the metallics, aside from highlights I think the bascillum gray over leadbelcher does pretty well.
