Thanks Fvon!
My plan is to do a bit of a daunting stock take across all my armies. Hoping to get this Empire line up out in the new year!

So I've had another play with a list for Riotville.
I've changed it from my other ideas, going for an Arch Lecter to give the Ld9 and some buffs. I've also conceded the magic game, going for a level 2 with Life to try and get some buffs off rather than try offensive spells.
I've also dropped the outriders in favour of 3 Demis. My hope is that 3 demis, 9 inner circle knights and greatswords might present enough of a threat at 1800pts rather than trying to win the shooting match with archers and outriders.
+ Lords +
Arch Lector [184pts]: Heavy Armour . Magic Items: AB - Van Horstmann's Speculum, BRB - Enchanted Shield, BRB - Sword of Battle, BRB - Talisman of Protection
+ Heroes +
Battle Wizard [125pts]: Lore of Life, Wizard Level 2 . Magic Items: BRB - Dispel Scroll
Captain of the Empire [128pts]: Battle Standard Bearer, Full Plate Armour, Shield . Magic Items: BRB - Dragonbane Gem, BRB - Dragonhelm, BRB - Sword of Might
Warrior Priest [94pts]: Heavy Armour . Magic Items: BRB - Charmed Shield, BRB - Shrieking Blade . Warhorse
+ Core +
Halberdiers [266pts]: Champion, 30x Halberdiers, Musician, Standard Bearer . Archers: 8x Archers
Knightly Orders Inner Circle [270pts]: 9x Knightly Orders Inner Circle, Lance and Shield . Champion . Musician . Standard Bearer: BRB - Banner of Swiftness
+ Special +
Demigryph Knights [184pts]: 3x Inner Circle Knight, Lance, Musician
Great Cannon [120pts]
Greatswords [309pts]: 24x Greatswords . Champion . Musician . Standard Bearer: BRB - Standard of Discipline
+ Rare +
Helblaster Volley Gun [120pts]
++ Total: [1,800pts] ++

Why does the Captain have both the Dragonbane Gem and the Dragonhelm?
Also I feel you are caught in a loop with these Arch Lectors, trying to make them better at fighting is a lost cause, The Speculum is the best buff hes going to get, put all your other points into keeping him alive. I'd drop the sword and the talisman (and the points you save from the Dragonbane Gem) and find another 10 points to buy the White Cloak of Ulric for that sweet -1 to hit which is going to help out in a challenge, or the Talisman of Preservation for the 4++ Ward.
Also the mounted Warrior Priest would probably do better with the Helm of the Ratslayer and a shield (He'd still cause fear and would have a 2+ armour save) over the Shrieking Blade and a Charmed Shield.
Edit: on a final note; have you considered Lore of Heavens or Beasts for the mage? Heavens Signature is amazing for its multiple different effects and its buffs/debuffs and damage are all relatively cheap. Beasts is just a far more reliable lore compared to life when it comes to buffs (Wildform being a guarantee and just great for an empire force)

Cheers buddy! The Dragonbane gem was because I had 5 pts left!
I've not really considered heavens or the helm of the skavenslayer. I'll go take another look at them. I was going for life for the buffs as I doubt I'll get big spells off with just a level 2 caster. Was hoping to tank up on power dice with 3 channels and then go for lots of little buffs.

Its very redundant when there are a couple other 5 point things that could help you (even just buying the Ironcurse Icon for example). If nothing else I'd drop the Gem from him and the Shrieking Blade and Charmed Shield from the Warrior Priest, replace them with the Helm of the Skavenslayer and a shield and you have the same result but better for his armour save. It depends on how helpful you think the 2+ vs the first hit will be. Wait, the Priest would have a 1+ save with the Helm, not just a 2+, thats even better. I suggest Heavens because Iceshard Blizzard is great range and so cheap to cast (7+ for the low level, 24" version) compared to Earthblood which only benefits the casters unit. Your Prayers will already get you a 5++ Ward save on demand, so it'd just be the ability to restore wounds you'd be getting from Life magic.

So I've a 2500pt game against Knoffles on Friday. He's bringing his lizards. I thought I'd try out a grand master rather than an Arch Lector. GM and mounted Warrior Priest into the knights. WP on foot into the greatswords and the BSB into the halberdiers I think.
I've given the wizard the Lore of Life to start with but I'm likely to change it depending on how I'm feeling on the day (the winds of magic are fickle indeed!)

+ Heroes +
Captain of the Empire [116pts]: Battle Standard Bearer, Full Plate Armour . Magic Items: BRB - Enchanted Shield, BRB - Sword of Might
Master Engineer [65pts]
Warrior Priest [110pts]: Heavy Armour, Shield . Magic Items: AB - Helm of the Skavenslayer, BRB - Biting Blade . Warhorse: Barding
Warrior Priest [89pts]: Heavy Armour, Shield . Magic Items: BRB - Dragonhelm, BRB - Shrieking Blade

Given the preponderance of Magic in a Lizardmen Army, I would exchange one WP for a lvl 1 or 2 Wizard. If you choose the same Lore, you can use him to ensure that the lvl 4 gets all the spells you want. As an insurance policy, the lvl 1/2 should also get the Dispel Scroll. You will use the lvl 4 to dispel with normal dispel dice. However, if, for some reason, his concentration is broken, he will not be able to use the scroll anymore, to stop that spell you really do not want to get through.

Good point well made. I'm thinking about using the Lore of Death and trying to get purple sun etc off. I've not used it as a lore (or much magic for that matter being a Dwarf player!) But it looks good!

Hey folks!
As we head towards Riotville, an 1800pts comp in 2 weeks, I've been playing around with my Empire roster. Knoffles and I had a game a couple of weeks ago where were tried out various units at 2500pts and its now how I cut it down, I've two lists that I'm thinking of below and as ever grateful for your thoughts!
+ Lords +

+ Core +
Halberdiers [210pts]: Champion, 30x Halberdiers, Musician, Standard Bearer
Knightly Orders Inner Circle [270pts]: 9x Knightly Orders Inner Circle, Lance and Shield . Champion . Musician . Standard Bearer: BRB - Banner of Swiftness

OR

Battle Wizard Lord [190pts]: Lore of Light, Wizard Level 3 . Magic Items: BRB - Earthing Rod

Battle Wizard [90pts]: Lore of Light, Wizard Level 1 . Magic Items: BRB - Dispel Scroll
Captain of the Empire [123pts]: Battle Standard Bearer, Full Plate Armour, Shield . Magic Items: BRB - Dragonhelm, BRB - Sword of Might
Master Engineer [65pts]
Warrior Priest [120pts]: Heavy Armour, Shield . Magic Items: AB - Helm of the Skavenslayer, BRB - Sword of Battle . Warhorse: Barding
+ Core +
Halberdiers [259pts]: Champion, 30x Halberdiers, Musician, Standard Bearer . Archers: 7x Archers
Knightly Orders Inner Circle [270pts]: 9x Knightly Orders Inner Circle, Lance and Shield . Champion . Musician . Standard Bearer: BRB - Banner of Swiftness

Great Cannon [120pts]
+ Rare +
Helblaster Volley Gun [120pts]
++ Total: 1800pts
These are largely governed by the models I have completed.
In addition to the above, I can add an extra captain, and take the archers up to 12, an extra demi and the halberdiers to 40.
Cheers folks as ever!

If the Archers are to serve as Wizard bunker, then 7 is far too little. 10 is a minimum. I would also upgrade your Wizard Lord to lvl 4. For 35 points, you get +1 to cast/dispel, and an exta spell. Compare this to the Book of Ashur, which gives you +1 to cast/dispel for 70 points. Granted, the Book is overpriced, but 35 points for the lvl 4 is still a good bargain.

Thanks Fvon as ever!
I wanted to make him a lvl 4 but it's a 25% lords limit and I'm 1 pt under. I wanted to take a GM as I know that theres likely to be at least 1 Chaos player and 1 OnG player and I'm unlikely to be able to do enough damage at range to avoid having to commit to close combat with units that can do a fair amount of damage on their own

If you drop the Earthing Rod, and exchange the Sword of Might for the Shrieking Blade, you have got exactly the 35 points needed.

It's my lords that are at 25% limit unfortunately so my understanding is that changing the heroes won't have any effect on the lords allowance?

Of course, you are quite correct.Quandoque bonus dormitat Fidelis. It would still work if you drop Earthing Rod and OTS.

Of course, you are quite correct. Quandoque bonus dormitat Fidelis. It would still work if you drop Earthing Rod and OTS. At 1800pts do you think the lvl 4 is ok without the ToP for the 4+ward? I didn't think about those changes thank you!
