We are at it once again! This time around it is a 2500pt throwdown between my son’s Lizardmen and one of my personal favorite armies, the Chaos Dwarfs. I have to been looking forward to getting these guys out of storage. They had taken some water damage and I had to do some touch ups and redo all their banners before they could hit the table, but now they are back in action and ready to rumble. My son is still learning the game, so we are just sticking to a basic battle line scenario for today. One to the armies,
Chaos Dwarfs
Going left to right we have a Sorcerer Prophet, a BSB, and a Level 2 Daemonsmith.
Spells
30 Infernal Guard with Great Weapons and full command.
2 units of Infernal Guard with Fireglaives, musician, and standard.
8 Bull Centaurs with great weapons and full command.
2 Death Shrieker Rockets.
Dreadquake Mortor, alas with an unpainted ogre helper.
Lizardmen
Slann in a unit of 20 Temple Guard with full command. The Slann is the general and BSB.
Spells
Gor-Rok
25 Saurus with spears and full command. 1 Saurus seems to have wondered off somewhere?
Skink Cohort 24 Skinks, 3 Kroxigors, full command.
Two units of 10 Skinks. Ah there’s that missing Saurus!
Bastilado and I believe a regular Stegadon with giant bow.
3 Razordons packs.
3 Terrordons.
Troglado with a Divining Rod.
Set Up
The BSB is with the big unit of Infernal Guard in the center. My Sorcerer Prophet is hanging right next to the Dreadquake and the Level 2 is up on the rock with the Death Shriekers. The Slann is with his Temple Guard and Gor-Rok has decided to go off on his own.
Chaos Dwarf turn 1
Well the old boys seem to be a little rusty. I am out of range for most of my magic and the Dreadquake is shooting off target. The Death Shriekers kill some skinks form the Cohort and take a wound of a Terrordon.
Lizardmen Turn 1 (ignore the turn die, it’s still 1)
Not much going on yet. The Bastiladon zaps a few of the Fireglaives to my left and the Slann hits the other Fireglaives with Transmutation of Lead.
Chaos Dwarfs Turn 2
The Sorcerer Prophet tries to shut down the Slann with an Ash Storm on his unit. A Fireball from the Level 2 and a Death Shrieker take out some more skinks.
Lizardmen Turn 2
The Slann casts Enchanted Blades on his own unit but otherwise is shutdown. The Razordons take out a Bull Centaur. The Cohort charges it but were not prepared for the Strength 5 Dwarfs, however the Cohort holds.
Chaos Dwarfs Turn 3
The Bull Centaurs charge through the forest at the Razordons and take no damage from Stand and Shoot.
A direct hit from the Dreadquake sends the Saurus running. The Death Skriekers take out a Terrordon and they bolt. The Bull Centaurs blow through the Razordons but come up short of hitting the Stegadon. A nearby unit of Skinks panics and flees. This turn the Kroxigors are better at dishing out the pain but the Fireglaives hold.
Lizardmen Turn 3
There is a mass rally for the Lizardment. The Slann manages to put some Enchanted Blades on what’s left of the Cohort. A blast from the Bastiladon takes out 2 Infernal Guard in the center unit. The Stegadon beats the Bull Centaurs by 1 and they break and are run down. Guess I should have bought them the Standard of Discipline. The Fireglaives but a hurt on the Cohort, but they can’t break the Insane Courage of that last Kroxigor.
Chaos Dwarfs Turn 4
The Slann and his unit again get lost in the Ash Storm and a Fireball takes out some Skinks on my right. The Dreadquake hits the Saurus again. That Kroxigor is still swinging like a champ, but the Fireglaives hold.
Lizardmen Turn 4
Nothing like taking a Stegadon to the face!
The Troglado decides to help out the last Kroxigor.
Gor-Rok moves up to taunt the Chaos Dwarfs. The Slann again gives his own unit Enchanted Blades. The Terrordons drop rocks and kill the already wounded Death Shrieker, which Panics the Level 2 Daemonsmith. The Stegadon destroys the Fireglaives to the man. Only the Standard is left from the Fireglaives on the right but he holds.
Chaos Dwarfs Turn 5
The Infernal Guard charge Gor-Rok.
The Daemonsmith rallies. A slim magic phase but the Sorcerer Prophet again shuts down the Slann with Ash Storm. The Dreadquake targets the Temple Guard and take out a bunch. The last Fireglaive is killed by the Trogladon. Gor-Rok kills 4 Infernal Guard but still loses combat, as expected he holds.
Lizardmen Turn 5
The last raging Kroxigor charges the remaining Death Shrieker and the Skinks charge the Level 2 Daemonsmith at the base of the rock.
The Trogladon joins Gor-Rock to get in on the fun.
The Lizardmen are closing in on the left flank. Between Gor-Rok and the Trogladon 6 Infernal Guard fall, but they hold. Gor-Rok takes a wound and the Trogladon takes a few as well. The Death Shrieker crew stab the Kroxigor in the eye and take out his last wound. The Skinks do nothing to the Daemonsmith.
Chaos Dwarfs Turn 6
An abysmal magic phase that leads to nothing. The Dreadquake gets a direct hit on the Stegadon but leaves him with 1 wound. The Infernal Guard finish off Gor-Rok and the Trogladon.
Lizardmen Turn 6
Despite my goading, my son decided not to charge a 1 wound Stegadon into the Infernal Guard. Instead he goes for a shooty turn. In an anticlimactic turn, magic is a wash and javelins bounce harmlessly off my Sorcerer Prophet.
This was a fun match, that ended in a draw. I love me some Chaos Dwarfs. We had some terrible rolls for the winds of Magic the last few turns, better rolls could have swung either way. I was putting everything I had into Ash Storm to keep the Slann off my back. The game had some interesting swings. I expected the Bull Centaurs to do much better against the Stegadon but man was that a bummer losing the unit by 1. The Dreadquake was off the first half of the game but came to life the second. Maybe it would shoot better if I paint that ogre. One thing I did not expect was that Cohort unit to last so long, that Kroxigor should get promoted!
Hopefully the Chaos Dwarfs will be back in action soon.
Enjoy!
