So if a Monstrous Beast character joins a unit Monstrous Infantry can he still get a "Look Out Sir" or does it have to be another unit of Monstrous Beasts?

It has to be another unit of Monstrous Beasts. For example, the Skaven mounts will not have LoS if they join a unit of ROgres.

What midnightfox0083 says. BRB p. 99: If a character is hit by such an attack, and he is in a unit of at least 5 rank-and-file models (excluding the champion, if there is one) and he is of the same troop type as the unit, then his controlling player is permitted to make a "Look Out Sir!" roll to save him from harm [ Italics mine].

Thanks guys for the feedback. I ask because I see a lot of lists put Sorcerers on Palanquins in units of Chaos Trolls. From the way the rules read they could be sniped by cannons that way. Makes more sense to me to put them in Dragon Ogres, since the Palanquin and the Dragon Ogres are both Monstrous Beasts.

The Palanquin may be a Monstrous beast, but when a character is mounted on it, they become Monstrous Cavalry, which is a completely different troop type, so they still won’t receive a look out sir.

What rahotep75 says. BRB p. 85: "Some characters can ride monstrous beasts, in which case the model uses the rules for monstrous cavalry (see page 83)." Character on cavalry > cavalry Character on war beast > cavalry Character on monstrous beast > mounstrous cavalry Character on monster > ridden monster Character on chariot > ridden monster

Unless you "house rule it" to allow Los, of course. And then everything is OK
