So, I like the look of the Bloodwrack Medusa as a single miniature, separate from the shrine. I know you can take a single Bloodwrack Medusa as a rare choice and was thinking of adding one to my DE army. Obviously, her Ld is abysmal so I definitely need to keep her close to my general and BSB. She seems like an easy target for shooting, but with M of 7 she could potentially get into the thick of it quickly with some enemy vanguarding/skirmishing unit. Has anyone used her effectively and if so how? Thanks.

Has anyone used her effectively and if so how? Thanks. I have recently been looking at them to see if I can do something with them. Outside of the Ld I think the T4 with no save of any kind kills it as a functional unit. At the very least looking at the model it should have a Scaley Skin save. I think it's a matter where the developers wanted to really make you pay for those special rules (Stare & Gaze) so they jacked up the points and limited to 1 per choice. Personally I think that was a mistake. At T4 with no save, even a unit of archers is a serious threat to this thing. Skinks would haunt it's dreams 😳 Now I only play among friends and we are not adverse to house rules. I may propose that they be allowed to be taken in units possibly a points reduction too. The shooting attack sounds scary on paper but with a 12 inch range most of the time it will only hit on 5s (multiple shot -1, range -1, move -1), so I really don't see 3 or 4 of them being all that bad. Leadbelchers are more dangerous. People feel differently about tinkering with the rules but the game is officially dead in the developer's eyes so this is a case where I think like minded players can tweak it to be playable. It's different than a unit that just takes some finesse to pull off, it's just outright unplayable.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, running them as a unit would make them more viable.

Sorry, I've never found them to be effective when using them myself.
I did once lose a Treeman to one, when my opponent was playing Dark Elves, but that was purely my stupidity for not 1) shooting it off the board, and 2) letting the Treeman get into that matchup.
If you know you're coming up against a low Initiative opponent with no shooting... I guess they could be OK, but when does that ever happen?
My recommendation for getting the best out of them is to either keep them at the back, out of shooting range, where they can kind of guard your more defensive units (Bolt Throwers, Darkshards) or send them forward alongside a cavalry General to maybe get a flank charge in. They not particularly good in either role, but that's about the best I can do with them.
You can't even use them as chaff, as Frenzy / Leadership 2 means they'll charge anything and everything.

Thanks for the replies. I play for the fluff and the narrative aspect mostly, so will probably paint one up and give it a go. I do really like the miniature. If anything it will be remarkable when she actually does something useful.

I'll be taking one to a tournament scene, generally as a fear inducing / harassment unit.
I have absolutely no expectations of her doing anything exceptional, but if over the 5 games of the weekend she manages a sneaky attack I'll consider her a sucess!!
I'll keep you informed!!
