Back when I wrote the Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos army book for the 7th edition of Warhammer, we listed a series of other Warhammer army books regarding the 'forgotten' races on the back cover – jokingly suggesting we would be producing these books. That never happened, but we did start to write smaller army contingent lists for a few races including the Fimir and Halflings, which appeared in a short-lived fanzine called Tales of Battle. Given that there is a full 'Allied Armies' section of the 8th edition rulebook, I thought a fun EEFL project would be to create Allied Contingent army lists and reintroduce some of the forgotten Warhammer races into 8th edition. These rules allow you to use such allied contingents alongside your main Warhammer army. For example, an Empire army could have a Halfling Allied Contingent fight alongside them, etc. Presented in the attached 1-page PDF file are the Allied Contingent rules that described how to use these Allied Contingents in your games. Over the following weeks and months, I will begin to release playtest versions of various Allied Contingent army lists. The first will be the Fimir, followed by Halflings, with many more to follow...including brand new EEFL races such as the mysterious sea dwellers known as The Merr.
As always, all feedback and playtesting is highly encouraged and welcomed! Thanks. Go HERE: EEFL Custom Rules (army lists, Allied Contingents, and more)

LOVE! We should play more "Allies" games - Thematically, the idea of a mostly human Empire force with like 2 or 3 small units of Dwarfs tagging along appeals to me. Or Dark Elves with a few heavy hitting units of Demons. Stuff like that. Big fan.

Yes, agreed! A note for people who have not read the Ally rules above yet...it does include using allied contingents with other army books (i.e. Bretonnians with Wood Elves, Goblin and Skaven, etc.).

cool stuff!
What about magic items? I would suggest you can't double up on the 'common' ones, e.g. if you have the terrible, terrible abomination that is the Standard of Discipline in your main army, then your Allied Contingent can't also have it. I think as written that would be allowed.
Maybe you'll also want to clarify that the allied commander+BSB doesn't give inspiring presence/hold your ground to the main army.
Also, my vote is for a Kislev contingent high up on your list of priorities....right after halflings in fact.

Naitsabes,
Good points.
Magic items are unique, one per army, as described in the Warhammer rulebook. Allied Contingents are part of your army, so you can't double-up on the same magic items. Also, each Contingent list will have a selection of magic items unique to the race, like the army books.
The Contingent Commander does not have have inspiring presence. He merely gives his LD to units in the Allied Contingent within 6".
On the other hand, the Contingent Standard Bearer does have Hold Your Ground (though only 6"). As described in the Allied Armies section of the rulebook, Allies cannot use this unless they are the same race.
Kislev is def on the way...

An excellent idea. It may be a while before I get to try these out myself as only my chaos forces came with me to Rochester. But, I look forward to gaming against some allied forces in my near future.

What about magic items? ... the terrible, terrible abomination that is the Standard of Discipline in your main army... But I love that item! Unclear if sarcasm or something else. SRSLY, I take Standard of Discipline and the Gleaming Pennant in like every army. Both make my list of "Top 5" Magic items, which are, in order: 1-Sword of Striking 2-Charmed Shield 3-Standard of Discipline 4-Dispel Scroll 5-Gleaming Pennant

it's a bit of a tangent but here we go: the way the standard interacts with inspiring presence it effectively makes every army and their mothers Ld10 re-rollable (or Ld9 with a wizard lord I guess). This makes fear much weaker, takes away how especially disciplined dwarfs and elfs are and a whole host of other problems. I wouldn't mind it affecting one unit but the whole army? I would always try to reach a gentleman's agreement to not use that banner otherwise as you say, it is an auto-include. Not many things that are wrong with 8th but, this is one! sorry for the rant back to our amazing allied contingent rules discussion, please.

Naitsabes,
I see your point. But to use the Contingent standard's Hold Your Ground! rule, the unit must be from the same army book - which means it can't work. For example, a Contingent Standard Bearer would have to be a High Elf in order for a High Elf army to benefit from it.
Even so, it might be a good idea to just state the main army can't use it to avoid confusing....
