Hey, I've read hundreds of posts about tactics. I know a lot of the theory but have some problems actually using the tricks. I see all this stuff about the game being like chess so do you have any links to games where tactics are important? Video or battle reports, I'm not fussy

Watching games or videos may give you some ideas, but in the end the only place to really learn tactics is on the field of battle.

I would check out OnceBitten360 on YouTube. He still has most of his 8th edition content up and has a good selection of tactics videos.

OnceBitten is good. The other big name on youtube was Malorian although I don't know if his warhammer stuff is still available after he went rogue and into warmachine. But, really the best way to learn is getting your teeth kicked in by a better player...repeatedly.

This is happening :-) I know the rules better, I make better armies, he's better at tactics which won him the last 4 games. I won the 3 before that so usually that means we're even but I wouldn't mind getting a bit better between games :-D

It helps if said better player sits down with you after the match and explains what you did wrong and how they took advantage of it.

If they just kick your teeth in and leave it still helps (you can think about things you could have changed) but if you talk about the battle you can both learn alot.

We do a recap after the game with the good and the bad points. At least I'm getting better at deploying :-)

I'm partial to my own I used to like closing with 'things I learned' admittedly there are a couple of editions worth of reports there but 6th-8th was a fairly stable system from a tactics standpoint.
