Well, go for it! Personally I like the "classic" (2000s) Brian nelson Orcs (&Goblins) so much i try to pick them up. But I also like kit bashing and konverting.. And I would not mind the odd 3D-printed thing I can´t find I guess.. Why not? Do what you like and use what you like?
(Da Orcs will krump ya´ anywayz! )

I don't think the quality is there yet. I've got a very small number of 3D printed models and aren't convinced. Give it a few years though...

For me it is really up to the design and quality of the files.
I would only print myself though, as my impression till now is the printed models offered on eBay and other platforms are not of the best quality. Like they configured their printers for quantity instead of quality.
So my answer to the poll is "it depends on..."

I have some printed models in my ogre army. Big things where I didn't like the GW version. Also have a printed mammoth patiently waiting to be painted. Then recently I've been expanding skeleton units. There 3d printing makes zero sense. So many different cheap&neat plastic kits available. for all the talk about 3d printing killing GW's business model, it his hard for me to see how in-house 3d printing can produce the quantities of plastic sprues they need to churn out. and for every at-home badass showing his personally 3d printed army on the internet, how many chumps are there who can't/won't ever own a printer (let alone dial one in to the point of producing decent quality stuff)? But, technological progress can be surprising. Isn't there a famous IBM boss quote about the whole country needing only a handful of computing machines. Predictions are hard, especially about the future. 'it depends' is always the right answer!
edit: “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.” Thomas Watson, president of IBM, 1943

I prefer to use thingiverse for my units, and also design some of my own, you can also change quality in slicers, I usaly do low quality, but than cover it up in primer and paint

Like Naitsabes writes I don't believe home printing will "kill" GW or other miniatures companies. Even if the technology makes a leap forwards, price drops, quality improves and handling gets easier, my prediction is the vast majority of gamers will not have a printer at home simply because it requires quite some space and a ventilated area. Unless you're hardcore dedicated, no-one will put a printer on the kitchen table or in the living room. In most cases you'll need a dedicated (hobby-) room for printing - and preferably not the ill ventilated basement your missus lets you and your pals hang out in... I have played with the thought of buying a printer, but haven't done it (yet) because I have no idea where to place it. Currently I have access to a resin printer at work, but it is always a hassle with reserving time, so I'm fine with that for the moment.

I would too if I had a separate garage . But I currently live in an apartment and only have a reserved parking in the garage under the building. My point is, not everyone has the possibility (for whatever reason) to live in a house with basement/attic/guest house/extra rooms/garage/etc, which naturally limits the spread of 3D printers in the hobby.

I here you, though it depends on what filiment and printer you are using, before I moved it to the garage, it was in my room, and it was just fine. there are also printers that are small, able to fit on any desk

I wouldn't print my own stuff... but have been impressed with the very limited 3d printed stuff I've bought.

I've obtained some 3d printed models and they're alright. But thin details like teeth don't survive the process. I remain in the terrain only camp. Metal models are still my favorite.

It's interesting, printing has come a long way in the last few years, but I think it has a ways to go yet before it is useful for whole armies, especially to a layperson. I've got a few 3d printed models now and the quality is finally getting close to where I want it for ogre sized things, but, personally, I don't think the quality is there for infantry sized stuff except with the very expensive resin immersion printers. But for those mid sized monstrous infantry/beasts, like this plague toad, the quality is there.

I’ve done exclusively printed armies for VC, Ogres, High elves, and Empire plus a good portion of a printed army for dwarves. It has worked for me because I was thrilled to 3D print when I first got the printer and it saved me a ton of money over buying the models. But now that the fascination of printing has worn off (2 years later) I am rarely printing and mostly looking and either being done with printing or with buying models or prints others have done. It is quite time consuming and I don’t really want to invest the time any more for that. It could change if I see something I really like but as of now, I could retire from printing and not be upset about it at all.
