Anyone seen or heard anything on this game? www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/runewars-miniatures-game-showcase/I saw a giant 4-armed Rock Monster, got me to click in. Then I see an Undead Skeletal Knight riding a giant earthen worm of some sort. That's enough to get me to start thinking about it.... First off, $100 for a box set is within the realm of reason. Secondly, I don't know if I love the round dudes "slotting" into square bases. Feels like a bit of a rip-off from KoW.

**It looks and feels a bit too similar to BattleLore. Those minis were, IMHO, actually quite good. The BattleLore minis didn't fit well into 8th Ed. GW model based armies. Their scale was too far off, especially considering how the tail end of 8th edition got really in the HEROIC end of 25mm scale.

They gave away the rules free at Adepticon this year. The thing is like Xwing it's all about having the little templates and dials etc that they can copyright defend easily. You can't easily play it with your existing toys as you need their little dials.
I understand the business decision as it makes a lot of sense to defend your IP from third party folks trying to be parasites on your success (those parasites contributed to the death of 8th in my opinion.)
But after having a pretty enthusiastic start I've subsequently been less enthused by xwing. I love the IP and think the game system is solid but there is inherent power creep and something less intriguing with Xwing maneuvers then 8th for example. Re Power creep basically every wave you probably want to buy at least one ship and there are 2-3 waves a year. It's not overwhelming but it's a continuous commitment to spend that wasn't needed for WFB.

Runewars looks neat, but was is the exact scale? Also, I don't like that the miniatures are on regiment bases that are only four wide, rather than 5.
RE: X-Wing, I've been waiting for Clone Wars ships. I want Count Dooku's Solar Sailor, the Invisible Hand, and a Separatist fleet...

Runewars looks neat, but was is the exact scale? I researched last night and couldn't find an exact answer. My guess is: same scale as BattleLore. And that scale felt about 10% undersized to most of my GW minis. Also, I don't like that the miniatures are on regiment bases that are only four wide, rather than 5. I also noticed that. But... KevinC you've been playing long enough to remember 4th/5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles when the rank size was defined as 4 (not 5). All that said, unless I make some other foolish impulse buy, I think I am going to purchase this set for myself sometime this summer. Maybe bring it to a campaign weekend for a side game. But, then again, if I bring anything with a round base into Rich's basement... Not sure what might happen to me. I might never be heard from again.

Right but what I mean is, and like the LOTR trays, the 4 wide does not translate well for 8th edition.

Runewars look interesting and I like the initiative. I don't think it's for me, though.

I heard it's rivaled to 6th edition WFB.

Not interested in the game but a couple of the minis are nice. I held the models in my hand today at Millennium. Very nice skeletons.

Their scale is much closer to WFB. Saw the minis at Millenium as well. Might have to see what comes down the pipe to add and paint. Nice detail, overall.

The opinion of avatarofbugman and TheREALricksalamone is enough for me. Cheerio!!! I'll work this into the budget soon. Maybe I'll have it for "Ketchup Campaign Weekend" (Catch Up... get it??)

RE: X-Wing, I've been waiting for Clone Wars ships. I want Count Dooku's Solar Sailor, the Invisible Hand, and a Separatist fleet... Well, you've got your wish - FFG have finally decided to bring Clone Wars stuff to Legion and X-Wing, which is great - the only thing is that the Episodes I-III stuff in X-Wing is only usable in 2nd Edition, and I'm not keen to start playing it when I'm still getting into 1st Edition... But the Clone Wars core set for Legion is honestly perfect in my view - two my favourite Star Wars characters ever (Obi-Wan vs Grievous) and with some really nice Droidekas and a BARC speeder bike. The only problem with that is that it's even more expensive than the OT one, but if I ever get round to playing Legion with all the other games I play, I would certainly consider saving up for the Clone Wars core set.
