I took a group shot of the TK pieces I've painted up for GMW. I didn't include the Terrorgheist because that just felt wrong to me. That's a VC unit!

SETTRA RETURNS!!! I just got this in the mail and HAD TO get started on him! I've actually gotten much further than this (mostly painted at this point), but I thought I'd start with these pics until I manage to get some more pics of the painted version. This is all I have for now, and I thought it'd show what I've done with the base since I really hate not having them square up for combat. (I plan to eventually do this with all other models that are similar, like Orc Boar Chariots.) Anyway, he's really solid and coming along nicely and at a good pace.

It looks really good, is it MDF or balsa wood? Can't wait to see your ide painting the base.

It's Bass wood. Harder than Balsa, but not as hard as MDF. It also isn't affected by water the way MDF is. Used a LOT in architecture when making a final model. Balsa is usually used for temporary WIP designs.
I've actually got the base mostly done other than a few custom touches here and there.

The skeletons look good. I especially like those green shields.
I'm looking forward to the painted Setra

Yes that looks great! How did you do the sand?

I actually did it in two parts. I wanted more of a "rocky desert" look since actual sand can be very difficult and time-consuming as well as easy to get uneven (unlike many sand dunes). It also hid any edge lines in the base where pieces fit together.
First a layer of Gale Force 9 small rock flock. I've found that this can't be ground up well, but does an excellent job of laying an even base to build upon. I then spray painted over it (once the glue was dry) to seal it in place.
Then, as a second layer, I took Kitty Litter (non-scented) and ground it up with a mortar and pestle, then applied glue (smoothing it out with a Q-Tip) and sprinkled it on top. I then re-sprayed it with primer to give it another good sealing coat as well as a base color. Sounds like a lot, but actually went rather quickly. This also primed my horses since they were attached to the base as well. I left the chariot and Settra off and primed them black since I wanted a darker primed base to work from on those.

Well, I only live like 3 hours from Memphis, the North American HQ for GW. It really shouldn't take them all that long, but I still had to wait nearly a month before I got it.

I only live 2 hours from Nottingham so I thought it might be a bit quicker than this! Still pending for me.

Settra the Imperishable!!!
Straight boss of a character. I've always thought he looked better on a full movement tray rather than the uneven base sizes he comes with.
