Impact hits represents the lances (jousting prowess) and the purebred warhorses striking true on the charge. You can say that, but it takes no skill to impact something. Chariots do it, Ogres do it. Also, don't even GW armed knights get it? Takes the lance out of it. My argument is that a good social rule makes me 'see' the difference. With the rule as impact hits I suddenly picture all other knights units prancing in such a way as to not crush the enemy beneath their hooves, which is ridiculous. Devasting charge makes me picture Brettonians delivering a more decisive blow to the enemy.

I think that Impact Hits work well with a Bret army. What other unit in the army can do that? And this is supposed to be an army which relies on getting charges off! I don't see a problem with giving them Impact Hits. Makes more sense as a playing mechanic.

I don't see a problem with giving them Impact Hits. Makes more sense as a playing mechanic. I'm not against the impact hits per se. I'm against the given reasoning. Impact hits sounds ineloquent. Devastating charge sounds like the application of skill. That is what I said. Brettonians knights, being more skillful than other knights, have more attacks on the charge. With it being impact hits I find that I start feeling that all cavalry deserve that rule, after all, even non-scythed chariots get that. That was my argument for Dev. charge over impact hits.

Oh, I totally get playing for fluff reasons. That's what I do.
Why not do something like give them Impact Hits + 1 for each rank beyond the first 2 (D6 +1, +2,...) and call it something else, like Splendiferous Skill?
