In the upcoming month the annual competition kicks off. At present there are around 15 entrants and it will take the format of a group stage and then knockouts, usually over a 3 month period. If you are based in the area and are interested, send me a pm. The club is located around a 15-20 min journey from London Charing Cross/London Bridge mainline stations and meet every Friday night from 6.45-11. (http://www.selwg.org) Pack - selwg.freeforums.net/thread/238/2017-competition-terrain-table-documentsOn a side note, if you are ever in the area (perhaps on holiday from the states 😉) and fancy a game, we have a healthy pool of 8th players with games being played most weeks and I could even spot you an army. Knockout stages:

Lists are in (almost), groups are drawn and the competition has kicked off. We ended up with 16 entrants so 4 groups of 4. Pretty good spread of armies, only TK, WE, DoC and Ogres are not represented. This will ensure my 8th ed. fix for the next few months!
There may even be a member or two on this forum on the list.

Given I am also in the tournement in Group C, I will also try to post some things! At the moment I feel quite confident for my games against the Dark Elves and the Chaos Dwarves for the majority of the scenarios, and not confident against the Lizards. But we shall see!

Yep Neil is definitely one of the better players at the club and Lizards are probably his most effective army. Beat him and you will definitely be a comp' favourite! (No pressure)

I managed to get a draw out of him last time I played his Lizards (albeit with a very lucky shot with my Hellcannon right at the end) so we shall see! As well as being as good as he is, I also feel the scenarios with their movement centric component have the effect of making tricky armies like Lizards more effective than normal- which is of no bad thing of course.

Played my first league game yesterday against Paul B.'s Chaos Dwarfs. I was quite confident having won my previous two games against this (or a very similar) army. Only thing I was a bit worried about were his two magma cannons. Scenario we rolled was Dawn Attack which handed me a large advantage against the slow moving dwarves. There are some photos Paul took of the game below. My juggernaughts and DP sweapt round his flank and, with the assitance of my hellcannon, warhsrine, and chariot, more or less ate his whole army. One block of chaos warriors did no fighting and held quadrant, while the other one just got shot to bits by the magma cannons. He managed to take one quadrant back off me with his hobgolblin wolfriders, but I claimed the win 3-2 on quandrants in the end. Despite winning the game, he did though in some respects have the last laugh, because of our tournement 'secret missions'. His hobglobins captured a hill thus giving him his, and I had selected 'raid the baggage' which meant I had to have more units with standards (fortitude bearing units as we call them) in is DZ than he had in mine, which should be easy against dwarves, right? But foolishly I forgot about the secondary objective. Even in the last turn I could have got it because my skullcrushers had, after inflicting carnage, overun off the table and returned. Then in the last turn I could not resist cutting them loose to charge his blunderbusses in the rear. I routed them, but it gained me nothing as I'd already won and served to pull the crushers out of my DZ. Even though I won the game very convincingly, I still only got 19 tourney points to his 15 due to these secret missions. Which just goes to show they provide an interesting extra dimension that can be really important. Paul took a few photos of the game, although we quickly both forgot about them in the heat of battle.

Cheers for the write up Luke. Always good to get more info than the results sheet 😀.

I like the crazy chaos banner. Acceptable in the 80s..and we don't all have to grow up into blandness!
What does the doomwheel-based contraption count as? Looks great.

Thanks! A nostalgia trip to the 80s is what the army is all about! None of this 'dark and serious' stuff when you can have psychedelic cartoon fun!
The doomwheel is a warshrine- I replace the models riding it with random talisman figures- the ones here being the inquisitor and the gipsy.

Ah yes, with the old chaos battering ram. That one has been backburnered for now due to me dropping the second warshrine idea- I sunk my efforts into a chariot instead. However it is a very interesting conversion so I will get back to it someday.
