I'm in Manhattan, and am looking for WFB players. I contemplated 9th Age then said "nope" after glancing over the rules.
I'm also interested in Mordheim.

You are in luck. Kevinc is in your neck of the woods and is one of the best to play against.

For what it’s worth there is a 9th Age in NYC Facebook group where you could probably find an opponent for 8th almost all are 8th Ed transplants. Hell man why don’t you join us at Da Boyz in Rochester NY for the biggest 8th Ed event in the US? daboyzgt.com/warhammer-fantasy-8th-ed/

magicjuggler, Welcome! Both myself and livewaaaaagh live in Manhattan. We recently played our first game together (check it out here: Goblins v. Dwarfs). What armies do you play and where specifically do you live?

I'm in the midtown/Clinton area roughly. I moved back in May, and my WFB stuff is in storage in NC, but I have "a little of everything." Meaning I could host a Mordheim campaign but don't have a coherent army!
For now, I'm cleaning out the bitz box. Most my WFB stuff was infantry-scale so I'm looking for whatever cavalry I can too.

I think you guys should share phone numbers (via PM) or FB contact etc, and then just directly message someone to set up a game - and then invite the rest of the crowd.

Hey Guys,
It’s Lance L. I’m one of the guys helping to run the NYC 9th age group. I wanted to run an idea past the three of you. Overall, since the NYC numbers for either 8th or 9th are pretty small, it could be worthwhile to do a test to see if we can make the two systems semi-compatible to increase numbers.
Kevin, would you be interested in doing a game against me where you run an 8th ed. List and I run a 9th age list? In the game we each use our respective system for choosing lists, magic, items, weapon rules etc. Overall, I think it would work better than anticipated and I’m sure there could be a reasonable gentlemen’s agreement for any occasional rule conflict.

That would be an interesting approach. I don't recall any major issues on the 9th age rules set that actually are truly incompatible with someone playing by 8th ed BRB book.
9th rules team has essentially doubled the points values on everything so it would be 2500 vs roughly 5000 (or 4500)

gjnoronhI don't foresee any major issues and I think it could work. It would work better than say using a 7th edition army list in 8th edition as 9th still builds upon 8th's core mechanics. The main problem that I foresee is that the 9th age player would have to inform the 8th edition player about changes to unit entries both before and during the game to prevent confusion. The problem for 9th age players would be contending with the 8th edition magic which is significantly stronger, handling more than 2 monsters (artillery is more expensive in 9th), and if the 8th ed. player brings some of the stronger character-item combos (unkillable disc lord, crown of command in Karl Franz bus). However, if the later was to occur, then you could adjust the point balance to give the 9th age player some more points to compensate for the differences. Again, minor issues and I don't see it as problematic in a casual setting. The upside is bigger as it increases local player pool for rank&flank fantasy gaming. Similarly, @alex- my offer still stands if you want to try a 9th vs. 8th game.

thepants agreed I think largely it would play the same. The 9th ed tweaks were to blunt the bleeding edge of tournament power gaming, but really I don't think effected most armies in casual gaming that much. There's also quite a few of magic items in 9th that are going to take some heads up as some don't have 8th ed equivalents. On the using a 7th ed army in 8th - heck some armies (beastmen, Brettonia, Skaven) did that - poor Bret's had a 6th ed book for all of 8th.
