Hello, Dan is my name and I am a new member to the forum. I've lived most of my life in the Rocky Mountains region of the United States. I consider myself fairly new to the whole mini-wargaming world, especially in the amount of time I've been able to put into it. However, I grew up modeling military aircraft, ships and trains. I also love strategy boardgames, and follow boardgamegeek.com regularly. When I discovered this hobby I instantly realized it was the perfect intersection of what I like to do. I first cut my teeth on this hobby in the mid-2000s on The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game. I started a Gondor and a Mordor army. Then I moved to a new town for college and befriended a coworker who happened to be a fantasy player. He convinced me to switch to 8th edition fantasy and introduced me to a decent sized gaming group. I chose Bretonnia as my first army and my group was excited to see some knights on the battlefield after a long absence. Luckily I had the foresight to stockpile a bunch of Knights of the Realm kits before GW shut them down. Sadly my stockpile does not include any pegasus knights, trebuchets or other special units. However, I have been delighted to find many other suitable model choices from other manufacturers. I have started other armies, one for each of my kids (TK, Dwarves, DE, WE). Sadly, TK was also axed by GW while I was in graduate school and I didn't have any money to do anything about it. Now I am done with school and I finally have time (and $$$) to put into this hobby like I've always wanted to. I watch eBay like hawk. I still see myself as an 8th edition player. I really like Warhammer Armies Project material as well. I am considering a Kislev army. Probably due to my modeling background, I put a lot of time into painting and my model output is fairly slow, even with rank and file models. I make my own magnetic trays, magnetize riders to mounts, and all kinds of weird things that also slows down my output. However, I cannot field an unfinished model. I guess I'm an idealist that way. I'm as excited about this hobby as ever, especially since all my kids armies are reaching competitive sizes to mine. Now that I live in a small town in the Arizona mountains my kids are my only gaming group for the near future. If I found a welcoming group in the broader area, I would be interested in visiting once in a while to meet other players and do some Warhammer-ing. Occasionally I might return to my old college stomping grounds and check in on my old Warhammer group. I have no doubts that I will enjoy this forum, and only wish that I had found it a while ago. I have a Google site for my work, but it sorely needs updating. I will post links to it when I get it ready.
Happy Wargames!

Welcome, azknight! You found a great home here at eefl. There is a where are you located thread you can browse through and add yourself. To find players I also recommend Warhammer fantasy battles group on Facebook as it is growing pretty large. You must start a thread and show off your models! We love army shots 😂 Also please join the monthly painting pledge. Don't worry you choose what you pledge, some a single model, another huge amount. And half the time we all fail.

Greetings azknight.
I like you cannot field an unfinished model.
You should definitely post pictures of some of your miniatures in the painting section.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome asknight! I, like you, am in the process of painting up large armies for my 4 kiddoes. Fortunately, they are only 3 right now, so I have a bit of time before they are wanting to use them to battle one another! They are always wanting to get their hands on the models though! (Especially my girls and the unicorn models!) Start a thread in the painting section and post some pics of your work! I find it great to share army pics because you never know where inspiration may come from, or who you might be helping. And like strutsagget said, joining in on the Monthly Painting Challenge really helps you keep at the painting and not get so overwhelmed by the amount of work before you! It also forces you to think through your personal goals with your hobby and create a timeline for yourself. As I'm sure you know, the stockpile of plastic can grow VERY quickly! Looking forward to your participation! P.S. - What did you get your degrees in? (Just curiosity. No need to share if you don't want to. )

Hello to you all! Lurker here that has finally decided to join in the fun!
I am the Lord of Skull Pass, although members of other forums may know me by one of my other aliases - Lustria Online forumites will know me as Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl, Phaerons from Necrontyr Online will remember me as Mithihotep the Indomitable, fellow cerebrates of the Hive Mind recognise me as Snaekhar Venomblood and other backstabbers/Skaven players from the UnderEmpire may have caught a glimpse of me as Cluny the Second. I have already seen a couple of familiar faces around here, and look forward to engaging in friendly conversation with you and others on here that I do not already know.
I have been playing Warhammer Fantasy since I was 10 during the 7th Edition era (hence my name - I got into the hobby through Battle for Skull Pass, arguably the best GW boxed game that ever existed) and have amassed armies of Dwarfs, Lizardmen, Greenskins, High Elves and Skaven that I still continue to work on despite the best attempts of GW to silence WFB's legacy with such abominations as 'round bases'. I am also a keen player of 40K (5th and 6th Edition mind - the best editions of that game that has sadly turned to the Dark Side), having a very large army of Tyranids and slightly smaller armies of Necrons and Orks, and I also have a substantial quantity of Middle Earth minis from various armies, although I mostly play with my Dwarfs (surprise surprise).
I look forward to delving into the archives of ancient wisdom this noble forum has amassed over the years!
