Hi, Someone posted a link to the forum on DakkaDakka, which led me here.
I drifted away from Warhammer during 8th for a number of reasons (one of them being I lived in a tiny flat and ran out of room) and didn't touch anything in this scale again until AoS came out. Though I had enjoyed it at first (It was simple to pick up, smaller skirmish style games were fun (and fit in smaller living spaces) and the sandbox nature of the lore allowed me to paint stuff I'd normally not really had the excuse for, or even use my older models with less backlash for being outdated), the community have slowly forced GW to make changes to the game that is shoehorning in old world characters and change the game to be poorly carbon copied version of WFB, so having lost interest (and now living in a much nicer house with space to spare!) I decided that I'd switch back over to WFB and we've decided to stick with 8th.
I'm a goblin/night goblin/snotling collector and my opponent likes most flavours of elves. I'm the only painter between us though, so it's down to me to paint all the armies (It's slow but its also the part of the hobby I enjoy the most)
I had been toying with taking up the 9th age, a tournament was set up for later in the summer which honestly surprised me, as the community around me is not very large in the first place, let alone too see enough people interested in what many see as a 'dead' game, but I'm not interested in the changes to the Lore and not really much of a tournament/WAAC player, more of a narrative/make it up as I go kind of player. I like a good narrative and a nicely painted army over winning a game. Much like AoS wants to WFB without much of what made it great, the 9th age takes the best parts of WFB away also, so it's not really for me.
I saw the End times:Grom expansion here and seeing it was by one of my favourite content creators from white dwarf, I already know I'm going to be hooked on it! Having given it a quick skim, I'm already planning my own snotling horde, something I've always wanted to do since I first got in to WFB!
I'll be painting up my Goblin forces and then starting on my opponents high elves. I'll also be doing myself a Albion army, using the warhammer army project book, which has always been a dream army of mine and with the game now in the hands of the players, I can do so with out scrutiny! My opponent wants to try a T'zeentch daemon army in the future (Thankfully I don't mind painting all this blue!) and If I haven't run out of steam painting all of that, I'd like to slowly collect at least a small playable force of every army, just for the fun of painting them!
If you use the middlehammer facebook group you will probably have seen some of my goblin conversions already, but I'll be starting a project log here as well, there is some amazing ones already one here which have been great for inspiration!

Welcome Mallo!
I saw your thread on Dakka and I was the one who posted the 1.1 rules to T9A (that we’re not at all hard to find) and having skimmed through it it looks interesting. I mostly got it because my groups Tomb Kings player doesn’t like the 8th rules so I’m hoping I can keep him engaged with 1.1 T9A. I’m also not a huge fan of what T9A are doing to the lore. I feel like making every race break out into every culture is just immersion breaking. Why have Incan Dwarfs when Lizardmen would make more sense?
Anyway post up some discussion and keep the old world going with us!

Welcome Mallo. Looking forward to the pics (though I am in the midhammer group so may have seen them but this way I can take my time with them 😀).

Welcome, Mallo! I can't wait to check out your armies! Maybe you can participate in our monthly painting challenge too! It's just a way we keep each other motivated here and share what we've done. It also helps establish a timeline for us. It's whatever you choose though!

Hey everyone,
I found out about this forum after saniles pointed me here from a Facebook WFB group I had just joined. I’ve been making an effort recently to get back into the hobby.
My friends introduced me to warhammer back in the day (5th edition). We followed only minimally viable rules often just playing whatever models we had, without any real army structure. I started playing Brets and never looked back.
Flash forward a few years when 6th was taking off and I really got into the hobby with another friend who had been playing longer than I had. When they released 6th edition Brets I was all in.
Played in a bunch of local groups and pick-up tourneys and even a Games Day. Started collecting the new Dwarf models, because while I enjoyed Brets (fast moving, hard hitting cavalry), I always liked the Dwarf lore, plus the chance to use a variety of dishonorable war machines with solid blocks of infantry sounded fun. Most of Brets I painted when I was younger so I really liked spending more time trying to make my handful of Dwarf models look more impressive.
I stopped playing just before 8th edition came out. All the local groups at that time were just playing 40k and no one was showing up for fantasy anymore. That plus life does this thing where it tends to get in the way.
Flash forward again, I recently started digging though my old models in storage and pulled out the books for my kids to check out. They were hooked. They were totally the impetus to get me back into the hobby. Been scouring the internet for the old army and rule books. Plus any models I can find. I’ve been teaching them to play (started with 7th, now learning 8th).
Looking forward to joining a community that still follows the old ways. Even trying to drag some friends kicking and screaming back into it with me.
