Do you ever go behind and touch up with the skin tone around the eye? For instance, right under your Seer's eye, there is a little "lip". Do you go back and touch that up with the skin tone?
That's what I do. I will typically paint the eye color in, dot the iris with a black felt pen (005 or 01, usually), and then take the skin tone and push it up to the edge of the eye to define the shape and make sure they don't look too startled. Since I've already painted the flesh of the face and washed it by the time I get to the eyes, this method also serves to highlight the eye and set it off. At least I think so. Lol.
I don't know if I'm making this process over-complicated or not.

Sometimes if my hand isn't steady I'll need to go back at touch up with the skin tone.
That's actually another approach that I've taken to painting eyes before as well: paint the eye first, be as sloppy as you want, then carefully go back and paint around the eye with your chosen skintone.

So I did the eye again and thought it got a lot better. Also added some more highlight to the golden hair and some small eyebrows.

Stepping up to mottdon 's challenge of a wood elf a day I've ignored my pledged paint queue and it a flurry of activity, finished off the old 4th ed. metal eternal guard (or Crimson Guard as they are known in my force). I still have to do the shields but that involves hunting around all the boxes at my parents to actually find them first! edit: I really am crap at faces!

And because I am on FIRE this month (or am finally finishing the half done projects from the last few months). I've completed the unit of Aggressors for my space marines. Obviously posting them in the other thread to keep this as fantasy.

While not in and of its self in the spirit of the monthly painting challenge, I did do a thing this month to DO with painting! This month I stood back and took stock of my current painting project. I'm very happy with the result. It's so good to see a project that you've poured your heart and soul into coming together. It's also a really good way to keep you motivated for the long haul. This is 5k... a third of the way to my goal for this army. After that, I've only got every other fantasy army to go! 😍LONG LIVE EIGHTH!!! Attachments:

I am in the thick of it with these buildings. seems like I am spending hours on it for little improvement. I tried to use wood stain for the first time thinking this would save me from basically pouring a pot of agrax over the buildings. but, I went dark with the wood stain. Never go dark with the wood stain. A secondary problem is the crazy glossyness now. will probably need to matte it down with lahmian medium. so much for savings. anyway. that's where I am at. gritty month. will I come out stronger on the other end?
