So, I've been planning on making an Ogre Hunter model that will be mounted on a Rhinox. I've been a little disappointed in the lack of mounted hero options in the Ogre Kingdoms book. The Hunter seems like a good choice as it fits his fluff and he already has a mount option with the Stonehorn. But that's kind of an all-in-or-nothing sort of mount option. I LOVE the Rhinox model and concept, so I'd love to see a Hunter being able to take one as a mount option. Here's what I've come up with so far:
Points: 50
M:6, WS:3, BS:0, S:5, T:5, W:3, I:2, A:3, Ld:5
Special Rules: Thick Skinned: +2 Armor Save, Extra Ornery: This model is subject to Frenzy (mount only) Fear, Impact Hits (D3).
It would be mounted on a 60 x 40 mm base.
What do you guys think? Changes?

The Rhinox was also Stubborn, and had 4 wounds and a 4++ in Storm of Magic. Apparently this made it worth 115 points, and not cannon-bait.
In all seriousness, this seems fair.

I think Storm of Magic typically brought out the boosted, max versions of all monsters. Lol! I can see it having Stubborn, but the 4++ seems like a bit of a stretch to me. I'm just wanting a common mount.

I'd be cool with it. Seems fair.

Do you guys think that this could be a good strategy?
Put this Hunter on a Rhinox, give him an Enchanted Shield (for a 2+ armor save), and let him charge up the flank with a pair of Sabertusks screening for him while he guns for the war machines or rear charges. Might be a tad expensive at 185 points, but I don't really see a more mobile, hard-hitting, single unit available for Ogres.
The Hunter on foot can move as easily, but he won't have the same degree of armor protection or impact hit potential that a Rhinox mounted one would. He could Vanguard with Sabertusks though. - And that brings up another question:
Can a Hunter use the Vanguard rule with Sabertusks if he is mounted (Stonehorn or Rhinox)?

That would make sense to me, but I didn't see anything saying the he couldn't if he's mounted.

Hey mottdon, is there a reason you aren’t just using the Forgeworld Rhinox rules (in the eefl general section under the faq tab) and adapting the points? M-7, ws-3, bs-0, s-5, t-5, w-4, I-2, a-4, LD-5. They have fear, frenzy (mount), impact hits d3+1, Iron skin (+2 save),stubborn, swiftstride, broadback (can use an additional hand weapon with no penalty). The Rhinox Rider costs 105pts and the Rider has the same stats and equipment as a barebones man eater (50pts) which would make the mount 55pts (in line with a Razorgor). Now the Rhinox has slightly better stats and more rules and offers more positives as a mount (even taking frenzy into account) but the hunters loner rule offsets this as he would still be cannon bait so 55pts is probably fair. Edit: if he does get vanguard then I could see an argument to slightly boosting the cost of the mount, perhaps to 65pts.

Oh! I honestly had no idea that we even had those rules! Sounds great!
The only thing that I might change is to have the Rhinox as a mount option for a character (Tyrant, Bruser, Hunter) instead of Maneaters, or equivalent Special unit. And I might give them the option of "Upgrading" the Rhinox with a special rule like "Running with the Pack" which would allow them to Vanguard along with two or more Sabertusks (whose points would be taken from a hero slot).
