So, not being a WoC fan, I don't really get WHY there needs to be new Warrior models. That "old" one looks nearly as good as the new one, from what I can see. Seems like it's mostly down to paint scheme. Other than a few details, seems pretty much the same.
With SO MANY models despirately needing an update, these models shouldn't have even been on the radar, IMO. Looks to me like just another WoC cash grab. Does anyone else know why these models?

I think that the one on the left will quickly become annoying as the model hangs over the base. 20 odd with dynamic poses will lose the ability to form rank and file.
I liked the first plastic ones they released about 14ish years ago. Were they the 6th ed ones?

Because GW is releasing them for AoS, and the old WoC models (which I think look great - I've got a couple of painted units of them) don't fit so well in a round-base skirmish game. They're designed to work well in a ranked up unit trudging relentlessly forwards, but don't look so good when you have 20 of them skirmishing - they're too monopose. The new ones are much more dynamic, and work better on round bases. I really like the new ones too, but don't think I'll get them for a while. It looks like they can rank up, but that it'll be a tricky arrangement (though that's the case with plenty of WFB models too... Corsairs ). I just don't need more Chaos Warriors at the moment, and the new models will be around for years to come so there's no rush.

I was happiest that they are the same size as the old ones. It makes me hopeful e.g. if they ever do something for those 'free cities' (or whatever the AoS puff-n-slash faction is called) it might fit with proper old stuff. and mottdon, clearly we needed a chaos warrior who puts his left foot forward, that's revolutionary! I like that they are close to the old sculpts and would work well in mixed units. There is enough difference e.g. scaly cloak to make that kind of unit visually much more interesting.

Pretty sure we're not getting anything new for Free Cities since the book was just released and all they got was a lot of discontinued products dropped from the list.

I'm hoping that as we start to move towards the new WFB in 2073 they may start to include the parts to make the rank and file models again, such as Empire captain/general that also includes BSB components.
Edit: Seems to me that that is a more cost effective way rather than bringing out completely new kits which fits with the likely "minor" game system.

That's what I'm hoping for too, and given the way they're managing the LoTR/Hobbit range (bringing stuff back into stock temporarily when there's a current campaign focused on that range), I think there's a good chance that'll happen for WFB as well. GW are building a massive extension to their factory, as well as apparently setting up a factory in the US too, to expand what they can produce/stock. It gives hope that in the future they'll be able to support full ranges across more than just their two flagship games.

Do we think that they'll start to work on miniatures that will go halfway to retaining the dynamic poses but will rank up easier?

I don't think GW will want to do anything that compromises AoS model design, but I'm not sure how that's going to balance with the obvious overlap of some kits between the game systems.
Maybe they'll do something really annoying like increase base sizes for WFB so rather than 20/25mm squares, we'll get 25/32mm squares.

Nothing would kill the old world more for me than a proposed rebase. I ‘might’ have even been more inclined to try AOS more if it weren’t for the round base high horse brigade. Even in the recent KOW 3rd ed they’ve changed some of the sizes (not to mention removed a shed load of the old GW equivalent model rules). It isn’t as bad as it goes on the movement tray but still.

I don't think they would go to 32mm bases. If they did, I suppose people could house rule to 20mm/25mm bases.
