This dragon is looking amazing. Great job on the green stuff sculpting. Where is the model from ? It's a big chunk of metal !

Great work! I'm terrible with Green Stuff, so I really appreciate it when someone can work it so seamlessly! Maybe you can (eventually) give us a step-by-step tutorial on how you work Green Stuff?
And that base! Looks amazing! I love the murky water on the corner, the broken spear, and the rocks (drybrushed?)! What did you use for the water effect?
Looking forward to seeing your progress!

redknight Thanks, he's an old have Reaper model, sold as Gauth when he was for sale. mottdon Thanks. I could probably make a green stuff tutorial at some point (though it won't be soon), my main tip for it would just be to sculpt, then sculpt again, then sculpt again, it's a skill that really improves by doing. As to the base, thanks again, the rocks are individually highlighted and the bigger ones also washed with black to bring out detail, the water effect is a crackle paint base which I painted various browns, greens, and ochres over the top of and then covered in gloss varnish. Now for tonight's update: The body itself is now entirely done. Skullex is designated as a Great Fire Dragon in the scenario hence the red scales, but I think I really like it. I'll be taking a short (1-2 day) break from Skullex to paint a couple of skeletons before I jump back in and tackle the wings and the head. Kaltheras

That's an amazing job you've done both with the painting and the sculpting - plus the base too, as mottdon said. I'm going to have nightmares now about being menaced by a giant headless dragon.

I'm also amazed by the job done on the base. I wish I knew how to do that ;D
Keep it coming !

sedge Thanks for the kind words, sorry the in-progress model is gonna give you nightmares. redknight Thanks a lot, I'm happy to provide a tutorial for doing bases like this if people would be interested. And now, I'd like to present Skullex the Great: This is the kind of model that I really could tinker with forever, doing highlight after highlight and refining blends, but you have to stop somewhere and this is where I've stopped on Skullex, for now at least. He is the largest model I've ever painted and definitely presented some unique challenges, but on the whole I'm relatively happy with how he turned out. He's one of the few models in force 6, Rogue Characters and Formations, and actually pushes me past the halfway point for the force. As always, comments and critiques are welcome. Kaltheras

Awesome. Simply, awesome. That thing is HUGE with those wings extended like that! After seeing the final positioning of his head, I'd say you were totally correct in adding the green stuff to his middle. Painting looks great. I have to ask though, why did you go with the Gray head, hands and feet? The feet kinda blend in too much to the rocks for my tastes, and the head (at least from the side) looks a bit rat-like. Still, that's all personal preference. You did a GREAT job painting him!
One thing I might throw out there for you to consider, maybe taking the lighter, yellow highlights at the bottom edge of his wing flaps, a little further up the middle of each of those sections. But JUST in the middle! Leave the edges (next to the skeletal structure) as the darkest points and gradate toward a lighter middle. That'll give the wings a more contoured shape and less flat looking. Take-it-or-leave-it critique as always though!

Hey, that is a very impressive model. Really well done Sir ! I particularly like the wings, the yellow highlights are looking very good, it really adds to the overall look. I have to agree with mottdon though, it would look even better if the middle part of each sections of the wings was lighter as well, following some kind of triangular shape. But this is really nitpicking. He's looking awesome.

That is a very sweet dragon. It looks like he's about to make a huge downbeat with his wings and take off! Your water effect on the base really makes the base pop and takes it to the next level. Well done!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm afraid I had some trouble photographing Skullex. The parts of him that look grey in the photos are actually much closer to black. Regarding the wing membranes, I agree with the color going up into the membrane, it was something I thought that I'd done, but I may not have pushed it far enough: Hopefully that shows the full color transition a little better. Now, I had a little hobby break after Skullex, he was a big project that had waited a long time. Now I'm back to working on the Fell Legion, and my current project is Marauder Horsemen. I have three units for the battle, 6 Slaanesh, 7 Nurgle, and 8 Khorne. Here are two finished horses for the Khorne unit (though they obviously still need to be based). All these horses and Marauders will be converted as the stock models are a little boring. This is an in progress shot of the mount for the Nurgle champion, one of my favorite horses produced by GW, it's a treat to finally be working on it. Anyways, that's what I'm working on right now. Comments are welcome as always. Kaltheras

That mount is a thrip. At first I thought that front leg was a smaller second head

Well, I've been too busy with work the last several weeks for much painting progress, but I'm at it again. Here are a couple of pictures of the Plaguebearers I've been working on for The Daemonhost. I'll get back to those Marauder horsemen at some point, but the inspiration for them just died.
