Honestly, I don't know all that much about them. I've heard that they are good, but in the two times that I have faced them, I've managed to wipe out the entire unit with one round of shooting at the beginning of both games, so...yeah, I don't really know just how bad they can be. But, yeah, I feel ya'. That's how I view Witch Elves. They're just simply way too good. That's why I don't own any and I'd rather face more of a challenge anyway. I don't think 5 Doomfire Warlocks are all that bad to field. Now if I took 15-20, that would be unfair!

I've gone against some REALLY GOOD players that ran units of about 10-12 Warlocks. Perhaps it was just that these really good players beat me, and they happened to use Warlocks.
I think they each ran 2 smaller units. RARE troop choice, so that limits somewhat. They have a ward save, they cast irresistible with minimal penalty. Spellcasting unit, why not??!! ---They move fast, they're FastCav by rule (I think). M 9!!! --2 A's each, Elf - so, ASF. + Poisoned + Always re-rolling 1's to Wound (evil Dark Elfys)
I THINK I have beef with these dudes because they were a new troop type, and GW wanted to sell a buttload of them. They gave them really good rules and priced them (in game points) very well to sell some plastic. That, sirs, is a slippery slope.

My vote is for the same color scheme on the second bolt thrower.

I agree with you about them really being just that good. They are certainly under priced. But like mottdon says one support unit of 5 isn't that big of a deal and if you focus some shooting on them (especially BS based) you can clean up a small unit easily enough.

Yeah, with rules like that, it's hard to go wrong with a unit. Normally I steer clear of OP stuff, but I really like the idea behind them and their look. I totally agree that GW just produced them for a quick buck and didn't care about the power creep. But hey, if you know that the world is going to blow up in a year, why not take out all the loans you can and live like a king, right?

Regarding Warlock's... they are OP for sure. In Chillhammer we nerf them to have no magic at all! They are still damn annoying even with this huge nerf. Tournament players use the minimum group of 5 (often 2 or more units) to run around and be annoying..... really annoying.
I like the reaper bolt thrower scheme on page 3. I personally think they look better unbased so would recommend leaving it as you have it. The warmachine stands up so well without a base.

MmmHmm huge fan of the Octopus/Squid banner on the corsairs. Is that stock on the sprue? Agreed. It looks great! So.... squidy I also forgot to say that the aquaish cold one shields you have done look really good and go so well with the dark elf colours you have chosen

I might just have to do that. I've been toying with the idea of going with a nautical Black Arc raiding party theme for the bases, with portions of them still in water and others on a sandy beach. I've been scratching my head as to how to represent a base for the Bolt Throwers. But then I look at all of the based war machine images on the net and I start to drool. (I practically have to wear a bib. It's bad. ) I'm glad you like my Corsair banner! That was totally off the top of my head. Hopefully it'll look even better if I can manage to get the look of the unit splashing through the water up on a sandy beach. I've seen you mention Chillhammer a couple of times. Is that a tournament? I'm unfamiliar.

Is that a tournament? I'm unfamiliar. Yeah i likewise like bases but the Reaper looks so sleek without them Chillhammer is just my term for when i play Warhammer with mates. We play 8th Edition but with house rules like nerfed magic and various homebrew units. For example several units we play in Chillhammer have round bases and monster Tyranids and Heroes/Villains of the Imperium are valid Chillhammer armies which are available for selecting when we battle. We use the core 8th Edition rulebook and it is all 8th Edition just with 'chilled' mods haha. There is an overarching 'rule of cool' and 'don't be a pleb' rule which is why round bases and lax army composition restrictions are not a problem. In my painting log I'll occasionally post Chillhammer units (kind of like KevinC bringing new units into 8th but much less professional) and their points costs so anyone can try/sample them if they wish.

Very cool! That basically sounds like what I and my friends do as well. It's all for fun. I have an old barn in my back yard and I'm planning on renovating it so that there will be a space for us to came anytime, play a game and leave our stuff set up if we can't finish a game (We're all fathers). I plan on making several table frames with interchangeable terrain tops to fit whatever scenario we want to play. I'm going to call it the Battle Barn. I'm an architect, so I've already got the plans all drawn up and I've started stockpiling the necessary materials. It just need to get started on it. That's the plan right now anyway. I've got a swing set and tower to build first. I don't do anything half-way.

It's the previous Hydra mini that GW used to sell before they came out with the current one. I prefer this one WAAAAY more. Looks nastier. The new one looks like the carnivorous plant in Little Shop of Horrors.

Mottdon, I know I've said this before but I'm always impressed by how quickly you paint. I like that you went with red for the Hydra. I prefer this to the greens you often see.
