I recently made a map for a campaign using the original (4th ed or so!) Mighty Empires rules, to be played using 8e armies. I wrote it for High Elves, Skaven and Lizardmen because those are the armies that my friends own, but it can really be used for any race. Just curious about what people think of it and of the mighty empires rules in general. Has anyone played with Mighty Empires before? I'll add a link to my campaign file and the Mighty Empires rules I'm using. Drinil Isles.pdf (191.52 KB) Link to the Mighty Empires RulesSo, any thoughts, advice?

Hey splume, cool stuff.
A few of us on this forum are involved in a large Mighty Empires campaign, which we have been playing for over 3 years now. For our campaign, armies are 6,000 points divided between 3 banners for each player/empire in the campaign.
We have a large narrative and rules packet, I plan on posting here soon...
Our rules are homemade but based on several campaign rules sets including as the original Mighty Empires.

We played the original ME rules in the long-long ago. I've run and played in a few campaigns since then and to me that is one of the most enjoyable things in gaming. You can rarely play a campaign system out of the box because every group is different. Commitment, time, logistics, number of players etc. need to be considered. If all players play in the same place and there is space for it, a physical map is awesome. If not, you might be better off running the campaign online and just meeting for the actual battles. If there are many players it might be good to create teams (or realms) of them, not least because with that many people some will inevitably drop out or be less active than they had intended. Losing one guy out of a team of 4 isn't a big deal but if a guy who's running his own nation drops out that could be a problem.
My last campaign had 20 players in 5 realms. It was a GM'd campaign. I used online maps and had the players submit orders through a forum and told them what scenarios to play each round.

I decided for this campaign that they didn't have to be, only your overall list has to be. It adds flexibility to the process of dividing units and makes it possible to make one banner extremely strong while making another banner weak. I liked this idea, though I can see how some people wouldn't.

Splume, I think the army construction is extremely interesting. It's still ultimately balanced because the player is making one big army using the normal point allowances. If they want to make an all Special army for one of their armies, then their other armies might not have any special units, etc. I believe is ultimately balances out.

One thing I noticed is that on page 2 under the army generation heading there is text stating "When creating the initial army, you must follow the points requirements for Core, Special, and Rare troops or for Lords and Heroes (using the End Times rules, so up to 50% Lords and 50% Heroes)." Then latter on that same page it says "The End Times: No End Times rules are in effect. This includes the 50% on Lords and Heroes, Lore of Undeath, and Combined Armies." So are lords and heroes limited to 25% or 50%?

So are lords and heroes limited to 25% or 50%? Sorry, I must have missed that. When I first was creating the campaign, End Times was occurring. Then, when I revised it, Age of Sigmar had come out and I decided it would be better to revert to normal 8th ed. rules. I fixed the document and removed the first reference. So, no 50% Lords and Heroes.
