How the heck do people casually throw out banners with huge, clean, even freehand? (or is that symbol on the minotaur standard molded on?) Hahaha!! Totally understand this comment. To be honest I am not great at freehand. I do use the GW method of penciling the design on and using VERY thin paint (which I typically avoid. I like my paint to cover in one shot. I’m a lazy bastard that way), and build up until the design is opaque. That way mistakes are easy to fix and you can get a nice crisp line. The Minotaur banner is freehand. Luckily I wanted it to look like poo, and I didn’t let myself down.... 😜

Oh, yeah! That banner totally rocks! You filled the space very well! I love the choice of colors too. It's quite difficult to get a wide range of brown without the entire unit looking very monotone. You pulled that off perfectly!
I pencil in my freehand first too. What I find harder than anything though is to stick to the gradient of the flag background color (which should already be done) and ensure that the freehand matches the rise and fall of the banner "shadows" as well. I usually go through at least three different shades of color, getting the undulation of the flag right, but when it comes to freehanding something over it, I don't pay as much attention to that gradient. Aw well.

You pulled that off perfectly! Thank you! I am really relying on my wood color to help break up all the red/brown coloring and I think it’s working so far! I pencil in my freehand first too. What I find harder than anything though is to stick to the gradient of the flag background color (which should already be done) and ensure that the freehand matches the rise and fall of the banner "shadows" as well. Aw well. Totally understand that problem!! It certainly can vary on implementation for me too. All it means we need more practice!! 😃 let’s paint more minis!

That horde of gorgeous beastmen is why, to me, 8th edition is the best Warhammer.
