I like the look of list 2 myself! Distraction may well be a good technique in an age of WFB when big blocks are king. If you fancy play testing in the new year, I think I've settled on Empire to take. Although I've yet to paint most of it too! I'm painting up 2500pts then choosing from there where to cut back The first list is definitely similar to scaled up versions of lists I’ve run and I know I should do reasonably well with it or at least know it well enough to not be trounced 😀. I’m still not sure about the second. The miners and dragonslayers are kind of doing the same thing and I did wonder whether to from the dragon slayers and take a bomber. At that point though it isn’t too dissimilar to Sedge’s list last year.

I think that miners are a really underrated unit. They can make a real mess of war machines and back lines if they come on right. The advantage of bringing them in behind skirmishing shooters is the rule given them soft cover on the turn they appear, particularly if the other unit has moved and over half range.

I think I’m going to have to admit that I won’t be finishing my Lizards in time for Riotville. As such I’ve been playing around again and this is my current dwarf list. I think it’s a good mix of shooting, melee and fun. I’ve of course got a number of variations and the one I probably favour is without Burlok but I do fancy taking him as I never have before. In this list, the BSB goes in the Longbeards and the Runesmith and Burlok in the Irondrakes
Riotville Burlok Dwarfs
Runesmith: shield; Rune of Stone; Rune of Spellbreaking 93
Thane: Battle Standard; great weapon; Master Rune of Gromril 126
Grimm Burloksson 165
Dragon Slayer 70
24 Longbeards: musician; standard bearer (Rune of Stoicism); shields 367
10 Quarrellers 120
Grudge Thrower: Rune of Penetrating; Rune of Accuracy 145
Gyrocopter 80
20 Slayers: musician; standard bearer (Strollaz' Rune) 295
18 Irondrakes: Ironwarden (brace of drakefire pistols); musician; standard bearer (Rune of Slowness) 335

With the UK lockdowns finally starting to ease, the club with shortly be reopening. As I’m still painting my Brets and it’s been so long since I’ve played a game, I’ve decided that I’m going to kick off with my dwarves.
I’m thinking of 2 potential lists (or variations of these as they are already on about their 6th incarnation...), both themed around strollaz. Which of these would you prefer to face or think would be more fun? I don’t know what my opponent will be bringing (though likely Warriors or Bret’s) and he’s a decent player so is happy to face anything.
The first is predominantly combat blocks, anchored around the groth stubborn bubble. The Irondrakes provide some decent shooting to make up for the lack of warmachines. The 5 rangers are there to impede enemy vanguarders. As I’ve only taken one unit, careful placement will be required to ensure my own vanguard (if my opponent has any vanguard - though I’m assuming he has). I could drop Grimm which would allow a second unit but he is just so good.
Dwarf Strollaz Dwarfs
Thane: Battle Standard (Master Rune of Grungni; Strollaz' Rune); shield 188
Runesmith: shield; Rune of Stone; Rune of Spellbreaking 93
Grimm Burloksson 165
40 Longbeards: Old Guard; musician; standard bearer (Strollaz' Rune); great weapons 625
28 Hammerers: musician; standard bearer (Master Rune of Groth One-Eye) 487
30 Miners: Prospector (steam drill); musician; standard bearer 355
Gyrocopter 80
Gyrocopter 80
19 Irondrakes: musician; standard bearer (Strollaz' Rune; Rune of Sanctuary) 355
5 Rangers 70
2,498 points
The second list is themed around Ungrim and is a more rounded list. It only has 2 solid combat blocks but again these are both strollaz and are backed up with a number of artillery pieces and an airforce. I know bombers aren’t great but I fancy trying out 2, backed up by two ‘copters. The number of flyers should cause a problem. The quarrellers are to remove chaff and protect the warmachines and the Rangers are there again to help with vanguard.
Dwarf Ungrim Strollaz Dwarfs
Ungrim Ironfist 350
Thane: Battle Standard (Master Rune of Grungni); shield 153
Runesmith: shield; Rune of Stone; Rune of Spellbreaking 93
Master Engineer 70
29 Longbeards: Old Guard; musician; standard bearer (Strollaz' Rune; Rune of Sanctuary); great weapons 486
10 Quarrellers: standard bearer; great weapons 150
29 Slayer King's Slayers: musician; standard bearer (Strollaz' Rune) 403
Gyrocopter 80
Gyrocopter 80
Grudge Thrower: Rune of Penetrating; Rune of Accuracy; Rune of Forging 170
Gyrobomber 125
Gyrobomber 125
Organ Gun: Rune of Accuracy 145
5 Rangers 70
2,500 points

I like the 1st list better. I love the Slayer models, and Ungrim is an awesome character AND model, but never had any real success using them.
On the 1st list, I'd try and find the points to get that Rune of Slowness on the Irondrakes. Other than that, looks good!

I pretty much always put the rune of slowness on the irondrakes which is why I thought I’d try something different. Slayers I’ve had good success with. Normally as a smaller block of 20 odd and used as a distraction. I’ve rarely used them in larger numbers though. Initially I was going to run them as a horde, purely for laughs and because you never see them like that!

I think you will have more fun with the second list. WoC and Brets don't have the best shooting (minus hellcannon and treb). Your slayers with Grugni should be able to be to get in their safely.
With all the choppers you will have a big maneuver game going as well. If he does go brets, ungrims KB won't do anything though. However, KBing a chaos lord would be a super happy fun time event.
