best /best/ adjective adjective: best 1.of the most excellent, effective, or desirable type or quality. fa·vor·ite /ˈfāv(ə)rət/ adjective adjective: favourite; adjective: favorite 1.preferred before all others of the same kind. They are not mutually inclusive. One can be your favorite choice without being the best choice. Indeed. My (apparently erroneous) assumption was that since this thread is part of the "EEFL Warhammer Tactics & Stratagems" sub-forum, any discussion/question within it would be read with the understanding that it pertains to tactical efficiency/superiority. For example, in soccer/football I would claim that my favoured foot is my right foot. Without clarification, the built in understanding would be that I am right foot dominant (i.e. I am more skilled/proficient with my right foot) rather than I just prefer or enjoy shooting with my right over my left. You're right that a choice can be your favourite for reasons other than how effective it is (such as fluff/lore or fun-factor) but that doesn't feel in line with "tactics" (at least for me, perhaps I am more competitive-natured than most). Either way, I hoped that my opening post of the thread would have clarified it. In any event, let's call it a bad choice of words on my part. (it doesn't appear as though to forum will let me correct it, I only see an option to remove the poll)

Absolutely brutal use of Lore of Hashut. Ash Storm is a game winner in and of itself. Well he didn’t win and they played the spell wrong more or less every turn I am pretty sure one purple sun every turn would have won him that game without it even being close. Whooops there goes 40 ghouls/crypt guards and so on. Not saying spamming PS is fun or good for the game. Strictly speaking power level. But yes ash storm is a good spell. But you make it sounds as lore of hashut is the strongest lore in the game where it might not even be top tier at all. Death is by a reason considered by most the strongest lore.

Aah spoilers man haha. I haven't had time to watch it yet. I like Lore of Death but not with Chaos Dwarfs. For a while I was pumping Lore of Death Tomb Kings. I just don't have much luck with it overall. Meanwhile my Lore of Hashut luck is generally pretty brutal (for my opponents). I'm glad Mountain miniatures are still doing WFB battle reports. So far I've only watched the first 2. Once you've painted up your Prophet on Lamassu you can try out some nice combos and hopefully get an awesome shadow spell. (Looking forward to some battle reports One of the big advantages of Lore of Hashut in a pickup game is simply that most people are less prepared for it due to how rare it is. Death is commonly used for some of the reasons you mentioned.

I think you are right about people unfamiliar with Chaos Dwarfs help out a lot unfortunately my play group is familiar now as I play it currently pretty often and there is very few options in the book to learn.

I have never seen Purple Sun remove multiple units turn after turn. If you are going to inflict massive casualties (ie 40 ghouls) you need to be casting the large version which is basically a guaranteed miscast. Doing this turn after turn whilst relying on having enough dice and also putting your wizard to the fore in order to cast (unless you are running a flying mount for your Sorcerer?) does not seem like a viable tactic to me.
I have just never seen Purple Sun spam pulled off and regard the hype around it as a bit of an internet myth. I've suffered from the other spells in the lore much worse than I ever have done from PSoX.
With regards to what is the best lore, it depends who you're playing doesn't it. Metal can be brutal against certain armies whilst being useless against others. Spirit Leach would be pretty sweet coming from a Sorcerer plus I am a big fan of Soulblight, D&D and Fate of Bjuna. Lore of Hashut I think is what I would pick for an all comers list, I think it has a bit of everything and I love the fact Ash Storm is a hex

And yes purple sun on a flying bale taurus prophet is strong. Or a prophet on a carpet(still on my todo list). Remember you can’t move through a vortex on purpose affecting as a block, if you don’t want a unit to move forward, if the purple sun ends it move before it reaches its target. With that said locking down a unit(Ash storm), especially a death star is very powerful. Especially when opponents don’t know the spell and know the mage can just leave its unit. Or if you have enough shooting for him to be in open ground. I like playing lore of hashut, it’s a good lore but so far for me lore of death has been stronger.

I like both and i also like the tripple set up 1 magma cannon 1 death shrieker 1 hellcannon I usually face, dwarfs, ogres, ong and now Lizzie’s. All T4 and my magma cannon has just earned back its points every game but my shrieker seldom does as the single point only hit 1/3 of the time when going monster/wm hunting and s3 is not as great vs t4. It's no wonder you prefer the Lore of Death! Those are some of the best armies to take it against! Play against elves, skaven, or any other army with high/decent I and to some extent LD (I can attest, I don't care much about getting purple sunned as my troops are cheap and have high I but the LD sniping aspect of death really hurts me) and all of a sudden purple sun and a lot of the other spells aren't very useful!

I face Skaven too where sniping grey seer is supposed to be good. 😂 Indeed I am probably biased. 🤪

Haha yea you're definitely at an advantage to snipe the Skaven leaders! You're already going to be at a +3 for your dice-offs; something that Skaven general should be very wary of!
Honestly that's the part of death that scares me to no end, more so than purple sun. Snipe the general and/or the bsb and it's REALLY hard for skaven to win.
Maybe I should instead just stop relying on slaves...(but it's so FUN shooting into those combats and not caring about the consequences!)

It's a lot easier to hate em if it's just a big grey blob....or worse a basically empty movement tray with a postit note saying "skaven slaves" on it.

Random anecdote.
Not too long ago lvl 4 Prophet Hashut lore along with a lvl 1 fire (point restrictions) Daemonsmith with the 50 point chalice (kept safe Earthshaker guarder)
2500 points vs Ong with lvl 4 Orc and I think 3 lvl 1 goblin shamans.
Using the chalice (rolls helped) was able to completely dominate the magic phase (and win the game) and Lore of Hashut ashstorm completely shutdown the main Savage Orc unit and swung a combat with 3 fireborn vs 6 trolls.
So a +1 for Lore of Hashut to add to the pile.
I will say that even against a low leadership army in OnG I still didn't find Dark Subjugation worthwhile.
If I can only have 2 spells with Lore of Hashut it would be Breath of Hatred and Ashstorm. Those 2 spells make the army work. In this list the core was entirely taken up by 37 GW Chaos Dwarfs with the Razorbanner (-4 armor saves). Combo with BSB and banner of swiftness for the overall Movement 4.
Horde formation with Prophet and BSB in it marching up 8 inches.
Tonight I will have another 2500 point LOA game (opponents army tba) using lvl 4 Hashut build again on the Prophet but a melee army with no backup mage so we'll see.
Same core army with the GW razorstandard warriors and swiftness bsb. Kdaii Destroyer and this time a Hellbound iron Daemon to supplement.
