An old friend of mine moved away a few years ago but just recently moved back. His favorite game is Mordheim so he is trying to get a campaign together. I read through the rules and got excited so decided to put together my own warband. As any good gamer I have lots of unassembled and unpainted minis. So I decided to see about making a warband with minis I already owned. So this is my hobby project for a while. I finished building yesterday. I sculpted the slings which are strapped to their belts with green stuff. From left to right: Assassin Adept, Eshin Sorcerer, Black Skaven x2. Night Runner x2 and Verminkin x2 Verminkin x5 I finished priming this morning. Now to painting.

All the Mordheim resources you could ever want.
I just downloaded and printed out everything that applies. It's a great game!

Looks like there is enough interest from local people that we will start a campaign in the near future. At least five people are interested and we are working on getting more. In the mean time we have been playing some practice games so we can learn the rules. I have played two practice games so far and I am loving the game! First game was against orcs. 12 orcs plus one goblin. A few of the orcs had ranged weapons (maybe 4) plus the shaman with a damage spell. We rolled Breakthrough for scenario and I got to pick to be the attacker or defend. The objective is to get two models to the far table edge. I figured I was faster so would be attacker. Looking back this was a mistake as with him having as many models as me he could cover the board really well. We ended up with some heavy fighting in the middle of the table. I tried deploying spread out to be able to get some guys through but the orcs were able to cover the board very well and that meant I could not overwhelm them in combat as I was spread out. Generally orcs were ahead the entire game having one or two more skaven out of action at a time. Eventually skaven lost 25% plus and failed the first route test. I believe 3 Orcs were out of action at that time so it was a somewhat close game. Orc victory. Was good fun. In recovery rolls a Verminkin henchman died and a Night Runner Died. Everyone else survived. With gold gained from the game I bought back a new night runner. Second game I played against dwarves. He only had five models as he went for arming them heavily. Two of the dwarves had handguns. We rolled Chance Encounter for scenario, pretty much a straight brawl scenario but your characters are carrying wyrdstone and you can gain more by taking your opponent’s characters out of action. Pretty much the skaven rushed forward hoping to overwhelm the dwarves with their vastly superior numbers. This worked well and between skaven shooting and close combat four dwarves were quickly down. The dwarves took a route test and passed. The dwarf player opted to go on in stead of voluntarily routing. He was then able to get his last dwarf into combat with my leader and took my leader out of action! The next round the last dwarf was taken out. So a skaven victory but at a heavy cost. In recovery my leader rolled dead! Everyone else was ok. Good thing this was only a practice game. This taught me I need to protect my leader a bit better. Many of my characters and henchmen groups got advances after this battle. One of my black skaven became the new leader. One of my verminkin became a hero. One verminkin group got +1S, another +1BS and the third +1 Ld. Both Night Runners gained a skill and I decided it would be Weapons Expert for both allowing them to use ranged weapons they usually don’t have access to. With gold I bought one a crossbow and the other a longbow. Mordheim is a crazy place! I also bought two Verminkin to get the warband back up to 13 models. I’ve been painting the six character models and am making good progress with them. Should be done in a week, maybe a bit sooner. I also built the upgraded Night Runners with ranged weapons and another Verminkin with club.

Some cool Skaven! Mordheim gives unique modelling opportunities if you model conform upgrades/injuries. Nice to see how you took them!

Finished building some more minis which will serve well as the warband gains experience, members and models. Rat ogre and assassain adept or black skaven x2 (one with weeping blades and the other Eshin Fighting Claws). x3 verminkin with sword and club which will serve well as an equipment upgrade to my basic starting henchmen. And last is a black skaven or assassin adept with warplock pistols. In warhammer fantasy battles I generally built the basic kits as intended. So 16 years latter I would say my conversion and modeling skills are still not advanced by any means. So I am really enjoying the challenge of figuring out how to build minis in creative ways not right from the kit. I feel like this is helping my modeling skills. Only basic things in these guys but there are some weapon and arm swaps, kit bashing, etc.

Played two games last Wednesday. First game was against vampires and was a scenario where the player with fewer models was defending a building at the center of the table. I had 13 and vampires 15. I stayed around the building and tried to shot some guys before they got to me. He rushed forward. My dice were bad this game so before long I had lost a couple of guys and the Vampire models within 6” of the building outnumbered my models within 6” which was the victory condition. So vampires won. I feel like skaven should not be outnumbered, guess it is time to buy more henchman.
Game 2 was against dwarves. Same person I played a few weeks back but he wrote up a new band. He had 7 models (x2 slayers, noble, engineer and 3 crossbows). Scenario was the one where you search for a treasure chest in the buildings. When we got down to just a few buildings left to search both of us stopped searching because one remaining building was surrounded by dwarves and the other skaven (when there is only one building left that building automatically has the treasure). So it became a brawl. The dwarves won the day with their superior range and how resilient they are. They took enough skaven out of action to cause a route test which I failed.
Between the two games I had one character break a leg for -1 move permanently, another misses 2 games (first missed game already played against the dwarves) and another gained frenzy (physiologically damaged).
I had various characters and henchman gain some stat boosts all LD, I or BS. My sorcerer learned a new spell. A couple characters learned new skills.

A small update. Finished painting a few warpstone counters/objectives and some hidden markers. I was on a weeks vacation recently so the week prior was busy at work and home getting ready to be gone. Then actually gone the next week. Then getting caught back up at home and work. So I’m just getting back into painting after several weeks off. I have started working on painting five more skaven minis, mostly characters with new/upgraded weapon options. Last Saturday I got 3 games in. First vs. Orcs. Orcs won through close combat due to having superior toughness and many of his characters and henchman had gained WS boosts. Then undead. I won. I used my speed and shooting to avoid his nasty stuff and take out some zombies and ghouls. I had enough shooting covering a large amount of the board that he kept his vampire hidden and didn’t get him into much close combat. He was afraid of stepping out and getting taken down with missiles. Last was Reiklanders. I won but I also had a more experienced warband having played 6 games with mine to his 2. So simply having more advancements won the game. I am still loving the game, it is loads of fun. I would recommend it to anyone here. I don’t think you would be at all disappointed.

Mordheim is probably my favorite GW game. It's nice seeing these skaven; they look great! My Skaven warband consists of older monkey-skaven models, and duplicates of the metal assassins and gutter runners (mine are on rounds, I infinitely prefer rounds for skirmish games) but what else am I going to use them for? I find them appropriate for the setting.
You've actually inspired me to use one of my old metal duplicate grey seers as an Eshin-sorcerer though - definitely going to get him out this weekend.
I've been working on my terrain and my table, specifically platforms and risers - in my mind Mordheim doesn't truly shine until you have LOTS of 3d movement options available. I also have wooden gantries and scaffolding planned as well.
I'm definitely thinking that I will try and inspire a resurgence of Mordheim in my area.
