June 2020 Painting Log: Getting through my Albion army slowly but surely. Champion complete, though I'd like to go back and add some blue woad to the whole unit when everything else is done. I'm just not brave enough to try it now, if I mess it up I'll loose the momentum in painting it! I try to avoid doing box pictures, as they can be kind of dull, but it's been like christmas come early today. A huge, huge box (About 200 new minis- not really helping me put a dent in the backlog!) of Oathmark figures from the recent nickstarter(ish) came in and then these showed up from Heresy Labs: It's a specially created Luther mini for Mordheim, which was done as a celebration of the Mordheim facebook group hitting 10k members. The added art was a nice touch and the dice were included free and are of superb quality. All for a great price too, about a fiver per mini. Even with all the problems going on in the world and all the set backs they had, heresy labs really delivered. I'm not really a fan of resin, so its going to take me a while to work up the courage to start on this, but I am looking forward to getting him painted.

More June 2020 painting & chopping plastic!: I got distracted from my main Albion force and started on another unit or two of allies. I've always wanted a halfling army but never really found a model range that I liked. There's quite a few nice models out there but not an armies worth, at least not to how I wanted them too look. I like the more classic look of hobbits but with a dash of humour, but the most common ranges go to far with them being rotund and comical. Mixed with my recent oathmark order I also grabbed a set of the Wargames Atlantic halflings. The set is fantastic. There is a couple of niggles with the set, but overall exactly what I was after. Murmurs of a Halfling calvary set on their facebook page makes me hope that a 2nd set will cover the minor issues I've got with the current set, but overall I'll be buying more boxes in the future! I've put together some conversions for the the Heroes & command for two small units. Had to source parts from a lot of other kits. I've loved spending time converting these and will try to convert a lot more, though I like the basic models enough on its own to use them 'as is' as well! Going to have to fill a couple of gaps in the arms and hands once they are dry, but that won't take very long at all, the gaps are tiny.

August 2020 painting Log: Been busy painting a ton of 6mm stuff recently, but back to attempting to make a dent in the ever increasing lead mountain. Starting to get much faster at knocking out batch painted humans. It's village of the dammed! Well, thats just about it for me for the year! I did get a bit more of my ghost unit done but it's not finished and I did buy quite a few of the new blood bowl snotling sets, which I started on the pump wagons (which are coming along very nicely) but I returned to uni very late thanks to the pandemic and lost about a month on getting my thesis starting, not to mention all my other work. I probably won't find time to pick up a brush between now and January at the earliest, next term will be a bit calmer but my work contract has been extended until I graduate now, so I don't exactly have any free time till the bulk of my projects are in. Ive done really well in getting stuff painted this year but I've been buying more than I could realistic paint even without the heavy workload! So next year I have to paint even more, I'm looking forward to some time off with some awful tv and a lot of paint! I'd manage to stay on target pretty much, wanted to get a minimum of one mini per week painted and counting all the 6mm stuff (which was a lot!) I nailed that target. I'm going to increase that to a unit a month from next summer, in hopes of beating the backlog of lead mountain, but that won't start till school is out for summer!

That is some lovely painted mini's! Those colors are very sharp and clean :-)
On the Luthor part, I have one and started assembling him a few days ago. But damn is he big compared to some of the official GW models.

Great to see someone else painting up an Albion Force! That Celtic War Elephant looks great, it’d make wargaming the Roman Invasion of Britain even more fun for the native forces In all seriousness, I’m not fond of Eliasson’s take on Albion, as it has too much of an obsession with Scottish Highlanders and not enough theming around the proper Ancient Celts (probably because most people sadly associate the Celts with backward Scottish Highlanders rather than when they were at the peak of their power and advancement in the Iron Age ). That’s why I developed my own Albion army list, based in part on my own take on the army that’s more specifically oriented around the Ancient Britons and Gauls, and in part on the fantastic units and characters developed by DeviantArtist Matthew Klaas de Witte, which also have a deeply British and Gallic feel about them. Please feel free to have a go with my ruleset as well with your great-looking army, and I’d love to hear any feedback you may have about it, because without feedback from other players I can’t get an exact idea of whether my rules are too powerful, not powerful enough or just right. I aim for all my unofficial army lists to have a ‘middle-tier’ power level, as that’s what all the Fantasy armies should have had if it hadn’t been for GW trying to turn it into an arm’s race. My army list can be seen below: eefl.freeforums.net/thread/2196/warhammer-albion-playtest-army-draftAnd I recommend having a gander at Matt’s awesome illustrations for inspiration: eefl.freeforums.net/thread/1311/albion-concept-artwork-matthew-klaas

I love the shields on your models. They are striking. The chaos hound is also excellent and the skeletons have a real clash of the titans look to them (the original not remake). What company are they from?

Wow what an update!
Loving these War elephants. Love the base on the first one and the current one already looks very nice.

Thanks for all the comments! Sorry for the slow replies, running both college & work from home has been pretty gruelling and I've been pretty much trapped at home since March now. I finally had enough of it all and took 48 hours off for Christmas, which means I've had some time to look over the forum again and I might even get chance to do some painting this afternoon, my first time since college started back up again. KEEP GOING BROTHER! Omg I need MOAAARRRRR!!!! I love your Mastadon! Before I found the 3D files for the mammoth I was going to customise a Victrix one with gre stuff for fur but yours looks spot on! I love the model you used for the Mastadons too, but the victrix ones were too good to pass up! I will be adding woad, after following your own painting log it really improves the whole look ten-fold and That is some lovely painted mini's! Those colors are very sharp and clean :-) On the Luthor part, I have one and started assembling him a few days ago. But damn is he big compared to some of the official GW models. Thanks! I tried for years to get the grimdark paint schemes to work for me and I never could, so stuck to using sharper paint jobs! Shame about Luthor, I've yet to even find time to put him together, but if he doens't fit in with the rest of my models he'll still make for a nice display piece! Cool! I love the art thread, I will def have a crack at the army list once college is finally done and dusted and I'm back to have my life back! Wow what an update! Loving these War elephants. Love the base on the first one and the current one already looks very nice. Thanks! I love the shields on your models. They are striking. The chaos hound is also excellent and the skeletons have a real clash of the titans look to them (the original not remake). What company are they from? Thanks! I love that skeleton kit, its superb. Its from warlord games, it the old wargames factory one they brought out and rebranded for their fantasy game last year. There is a lot of complaints kicking about online about the kit but I really don't think they are warranted. Most of the complaints came from a single video where the person complained that the feet needed glueing, then they preceded to use the wrong glue on the models and try to rush the build. You do have to batch build them, as you need a bit of time between main parts trying before you can glue on arms and heads, other wise the weight makes everything droop, as some of the connection points are tiny. I'd say you do need slightly more patience than you'd need with more modern kits, but they are not that bad at all, the video spread online and people parroted it. The kit has more positives than negatives, they are dirt cheap, come with a whole host of weapons and options (Only bows are a little bit low, you have enough if you build a few units of spears or swords, but not enough bows to do the whole box sadly) come with their own 20mm plastic bases (Not quite a match for gw ones but close enough) and they actually look like they came out of the flesh sack of an ex-empire man! They also paint up stupidly easy!
Since I've have no time to paint or build since college started back in September I've not touched my Albion project since the last update. But that hasn't stopped me partaking in retail therapy and I'm now the proud owner of a hell of a lot more miniatures, including a large chaos dwarf army, which I ordered for my birthday back at the start of the year and due to the pandemic only just arrived! But with so much work on, I finally snapped over Christmas. I packed up the work and took that much needed time off which included settling down in front of a horror movie and getting some hobby done. I didn't want to work on something that was already a project, as I was worried that I'd screw something up as I'm still under a lot of pressure to get my work done and with it niggling at the back of my mind I wanted something mindless that I could just sit back and glue together and if it was rubbish, least I'd had a couple hours of peace. And so behold, the new horror: My misses is probably starting to get annoyed with the amount of awful puns this lot came with! "Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!" "40k has Ork nobs, where as these orcs..." "look, those two orcs have big choppers and that one has a morning(wood) star.." I'm sure this lot will upset the same folk on facebook groups that got upset at the nakedness of my Albion unit!

I'm 'back' to college again this week, for the final time (hopefully!) and as soon as my thesis is in I'm treating myself to a painters holiday! But I did take a couple of evenings out last week to mentally prepare for it and spent the time painting up another unit for my Albions using more victrix kits for some heavy armour warriors. (I got an insane batch of Victrix stuff as a Christmas gift, I'm almost embarrassed by how much I have to paint now! ) I actually batch painted the whole unit of 10 in one go, which wasn't very pleasant (Thankfully the Xfiles on in the background helped a lot!) but it was great to have the whole unit done and dusted at the same time! I can definitely go back and add more way more to them in the future but I need to start whittling down the huge backlog of projects on the go! The weeds still need a drybrush as they tend to look a bit flat without it, but they are still drying when this was taken.

I usually needed the occasional "veg out day" too. Seeing as how I was slogging through Architecture, though, I didn't really want to work with models much. Congrats at nearing your end of college!

That’s funny, I just saw imrillion building some Victrix Armoured Warriors, and have ported over to your thread to find you’ve made and painted some too! Great work, they’re brilliant models to represent Tribal Nobles.

Seeing as how I was slogging through Architecture, though, I didn't really want to work with models much. Congrats at nearing your end of college! Thanks! I'll be glad when its over now, I only went back to do a single course over a year and ended up doing a full blown five years. I'm definitely taking a 'painters holiday' once its all over and it will be nice to paint for the sake of painting and not just as a distraction! That’s funny, I just saw imrillion building some Victrix Armoured Warriors, and have ported over to your thread to find you’ve made and painted some too! I wanted a bit of a cleanser after painting the last batch of Albions and whilst starting to build up the next selection of humans. I got a number of odds and ends for Slaanesh for Christmas to bulk out the models I got as part of the recent AoS starter set mixed with the Dark Elf/daughters of Khaine. This won't be a huge project, just a handful of units, mostly the daemonette stuff I just wanted to paint for fun. But I didn't want to use up the old chaos warriors for this, as I've already got some partially done for a mortal nurgle army and wanted something different for Slaanesh, more greed & excess than the standard 'spikes & tentacles & whips' that warhammer chaos tends to show. There are a few things that need finishing on these; I'd not decided on a colour for the hammer shafts as I wanted something there that would break up the colours a bit more but didn't want to add too much more to the scheme. I've left the daemonette eyes, as I'll decide on them when I paint the unit of actual daemonettes and I need to finish the basing, couldn't decide if I wanted to stick with Chaos wastes/grey all over or do something else for the none flagstone part. The helmet horns are still drying from the wash here as well, so they will get a bit of touch up later too. I was going to add the blue-green colour of the gems inside of the little triangle things on the hammers, but this felt like it would be even more work and I wanted to knock these models out quickly and keep clearing back log. I can always go back and add stuff like this over the summer. I've also got some old decals for finishing off her shield, but that involves digging around in the storage area & I'm not really feeling up for that today! I'm still getting used to my new phones camera, its incredibly harsh on my paint jobs right now! The daemonettes skin is much lighter than that and the colour transition on the shield is a lot softer in real life, especially with the dark section near the top! I really liked converting these models but it was slow to get them basecoated, there are some horrid design choices on how the were modelled. I think the flagstone bases they come with are nice but they are a total pain to fix up enough to use on my usual mdf bases, I'm not looking forward to having to clean up another batch of them later on. I regret not taking off the leaves from the stones, as I've no idea how to paint them now, I'm honestly tempted to go with a snow theme so I can hide them! Cleaning that shield up was mission, took me ages to get it nice and smooth after shaving off all the AoS iconography! Obviously the basing I've fit them on here makes them a much larger footprint than normal chaos warriors would have, so they may end up just sitting on the shelf than being gamed with, but that's a problem for worrying about another day!

Ooooh, I REALLY like your color scheme on those! Looks great! Those look like brilliant conversions and the basing looks awesome! Great work!
