Cheers Jukei, a really interesting read. One question about the copying of books though, even if something is out print isn't it protected by copyright including photocopying?

Cheers Jukei, a really interesting read. One question about the copying of books though, even if something is out print isn't it protected by copyright including photocopying? There are no pacts between lions and men! But to answer your question, yes it is still protected by copyright (including photocopying). Although that never stopped the pdfs from floating around the internet... if one were so inclined.

cheers gregr...I am happy you liked the article. nightbringer answered you correctly. Copyright is a right......right? :-) and how many human, animal rights are protected but not respected....uhmmm? and who are we to judge and condemn a poor honest guy who wants to have a backup of his beloved book for his own personal use? uhmmm?who are we? :-)))))

I like the positive spirit of the article, and I agree that now is still a good time to be playing 8th, so long as you've got the determination for it. However, I think we'd be better off if GW had continued to support it - while the unofficial army expansions are good and there are plenty of alternative models, official support would mean a much larger player base, and regular new material (especially the novels - while hit and miss, there were some excellent ones from GW over the years, and I don't think the community can replace those).

Agreed. Even limited run mail order back support would have been something

It's a great time to play Warhammer... if you can find Warhammer players who are playing your preferred version of Warhammer. Oldhammer, 8E, T9A, WAP, W:R&R, not to mention the clones like KoW. The once-monolithic Warhammer community has splintered. Before, you go to any game store with a play area and you'd likely find a WFB group. Now... could be any one of the above, but probably not more than one of them.

It is indeed the perfect time to be playing Warhammer. My last 4 games have all been fun, closely fought epics. There's no game quite like Warhammer Fantasy.

I think no matter what happens, there will be an interest for Warhammer Fantasy. You just need another person or group that are still interested in the game and not always out for the latest freshness.

youtu.be/RVQDTD6zaBoHave you guys seen this? I really, REALLY want to like these guys, but they SOOOO oversimplify this topic. Plus, they are ONLY looking at it from an active gamers perspective. They never touch GWs motives or bad leadership. I mean, I get that they have to keep up a good business relationship with GW, so publicly bashing them isn't in their best interests, but why make the video at all then? Who are they trying to convince that Fantasy's dead? They must be getting an inordinate amount of requests for 8th edition videos if they have to make one like this. If it's not profitable for them, then they should just be upfront and say so. "We no longer make any money from making videos of 8th edition games and can't afford putting anymore resources into those videos". Boom. Done. What do you guys think?

When I watched it I couldn't help feeling that Matt was a bit pompous in his attitude towards the whole thing. He sounded just like he was just reading from the GW employee handbook. I have had many friends that worked for GW and that is just how they sounded when the newest hotness would come along. I don't see how Miniwargaming could claim they don't make money off their 8th videos. They usually have 40K-80K views, which is as much as some of their AoS stuff. I think what it comes down to is Matt is obviously not a Fantasy fan. He is a new hotness kinda guy. The only employee that has any passion for Fantasy is Steve. However Steve is one of their more popular hosts, so they probably want him working on other projects.

Yeah, I totally think Steve would make more Fantasy videos but they are forcing him into making videos of toys that they can sell. Matt is totally a numbers kind of guy and he sees big $$$ from whatever GW is pushing at the moment.
I've followed them ever since Matt first started making him "How to play Fantasy" videos with his Tomb Kings in their brick & mortar store, and have watched it turn into the business it is today, but this kind of video just makes me sad because it feels like they have simply ditched their love of the game for corporate be.

I think Steve does put the odd fantasy video up still under his own channel. Is it Mountain Gaming or something like that?

I think Steve does put the odd fantasy video up still under his own channel. Is it Mountain Gaming or something like that? Yep Mountain Miniatures gaming. I've watched his first 2 Fantasy Battle Reports as well as the 2 Chaos Dwarf vs Vampire Counts ones. I can't bring myself to watch that video Mottdon. I watched part of the first video of that ilk and that main Matt pleb said that Warhammer Fantasy players should get over it and rebase all their models to rounds as they objectively look better on rounds than squares or some other garbage. Now I actually play with both rounds and squares but found that an annoyingly stupid comment. I had hoped for a decent video but ended up turning it off after 10 minutes as it was a trollish waste of my time.

Sadly, Steve's Mountain Miniature Gaming hasn't been very active lately. It's been 4 months since he posted a fantasy video. It's been 2 months since he posted anything at all. I really enjoy his stuff.
I find Steve's videos really enjoyable to watch. Were all the rules perfect, no, but I've never seen a game where both players remember everything. He has the perfect attitude for videos, not for tournaments or always winning, but just for the enjoyment of the game.
