Is battlescribe the only choice? The army files are really messed up and produce a lot of errors. Is there anything else out there that works?

I tend to use Army Builder. It's missing some of the Warhammer Forge options but otherwise complete and points accurate.

For iPhone I use quartermaster. Developer is also fast on updating the army list files if you submit changes.

I love quartermaster as it is easy to edit files and ease of use.

I’ll second Loneswolf’s army builder. It is excellent. Head and shoulders above the others if only for little things such as being able add spell selections etc into the list with full descriptions. The only downside to it is there is no mobile app builder such as quartermaster or BattleScribe, it is pc based.

Yeah, IIRC, that's been the biggest request/complaint on their boards since tablets and smart phone got big. It seems they consider the fact you can save as PDF good enough to not do anything about it.

The lack of mobile supportrar AB is a no go for me. I barley use a computer and don’t own a pc. I need to be able to do my lists on the fly and hate bringing papers.

I'm the opposite. I'd rather lists be prepared in advance and there be zero mobile/electronic devices out during the game.

I also prefer the printed list, though you can print the list to PDF and store it on your phone if wanted. I just love how AB lists out spells, miscast/misfire tables and all the special rules etc. for your list. It means you can basically play the game with out worrying about having any of the other books (ok perhaps not without the rulebook). I do you BattleScribe on the go but always then put my list into AB.

So I tend to use BattleScribe. As someone who doesnt like to print too much I have PDFs all on my tablet which I take with me

I tried both Armybuilder and Battlescribe.... both work well, but Armybuilder is easier to use (more automation) but I found battlescribe more convenient when creating custom content (such as a O&G Squig Gobba).
