As I read more on the 8th ed rulebook, it never specified if cannons, stone throwers or fire throwers have to roll to wound. When you look at the shooting phase rules it said that war machines has its on special rules for shooting. So for the 3 former war machines mention, do we have to roll to wound or do the automatic hit counts as it being wounded?

Since all the warmachines have Strength characteristic values for their shooting attacks, that implies you need to roll to wound with them, even if doesn't say so explicitly.

What alpenn says. BRB p. 38: "War machines and other, more peculiar, devices of destruction are covered in their own chapter (beginning on page 108). However, even the most colossal trebuchet is governed by many of the same rules as the humble bow and arrow, so it's worth reading through this section before unlimbering your cannon or organ gun." BRb p. 45: "Some war machines, spells or magic weapons are so destructive that if a model suffers an unsaved wound from them, the victim doesn't lose only 1 Wound, but 2 Wounds, or a number of Wounds equal to the roll of a D3, D6, etc, as noted in the weapon's rules. In such cases, roll to hit and to wound as normal and then take any armour saves and ward saves that apply. Finally, for each such wound that is not saved, roll the appropriate dice to determine how many wounds are caused."

Could that be just to tally up the armour saving throw since it is calculated by strength? None of those warmachines have a no armour save rule for them.

In previous editions, most war machines did not allow armour saves. In the 8th edition, that was changed, but, of course, in the case of e.g. a cannon with S10 that does not change really much.
