they said it was 2-3 years out. we might start seeing concept art and test models this year but don't plan on any releases until at least late 2021 So my theory is it won't be 3 years. I think we will start getting minis well before then that are compatible with AoS and 8th ed to keep the hype up. I think 3 years will be the rule set rather than minis So... another round of scale creep, to be compatible with the larger AoS models then.

They're going to have to make some alterations to the poses to allow for square bases so I dont envisage the models being bigger

I think they've already started. Just look at the Ogre Tyrant, Big Boss on Giant Cave Squig, Doomrocket Skaven Engineer, etc. Those will all fit the Old World aesthetic. (There might be the random Sigmarine helmet here and there, but that's easily rectified.) All they really need to do with those models, is to put a square base in the packaging when the time comes. I think this will be the manner in which they'll prepare and update much of the unit which already exist in AoS (WoC Knights). And in 2-3 years when the game drops, they'll release books and sets at a steady pace, the way they've been doing, following the boxed set.

i mean i don't think they "started" making old world models, it's just that 70% of WFB models and AOS models overlap.

I have been wondering if GW will somehow try to insert the option to use the Stormcast faction into the Old World somehow. That way people could be encouraged to collect that faction and use them in both game systems, AoS and Warhammer: Old World. I don't know much of the AoS fluff, so maybe it wouldn't make sense.

The inclusion of SCE in The Old World would be an instant deal breaker for me. I'd just happily stick with 8th edition.

Some of the Black Library authors do a very good job of writing Spezz Muurines with personalities. Though marines technically "Know No Fear," they do have a range of human emotions.

Doubt it - they haven't for Blood Bowl, and it's the same Specialist Games team handling both. GW people are generally hobbyists and not idiots, and I think they're able to realise that Sigmarines in the Old World would piss everyone off to the extent of undoing all the good work of bringing back WFB.

Kislev is coming!!!!! www.warhammer-community.com/2020/03/23/the-old-world-ice-guard-of-kislevgw-homepage-post-4fw-homepage-post-2/Quoted below: One of the coolest aspects of returning to the world-that-was is the opportunity to revisit certain aspects of its classic lore and delve into them in greater detail than ever before. A perfect candidate for further investigation is the harsh, frozen realm found to the north of the Empire – Kislev, the land of the Ice Queens. To that end, let’s take a look at a project that’s currently in development… Putting the Class into Classic The people of Kislev were renowned as being among the finest horsemasters in the world – and for giving a frosty reception to Norscan raiders and the hordes of Chaos who frequently invaded their land. They also had two iconic cavalry units in their Ungol Horse Archers and Kislevite Winged Lancers. Do you remember these miniatures from many years past? They’re so old, we reckon they were around during the last Ice Age… One new unit that’s in the early stages of development is set in the Ice Court – the seat of the ruling Tsar or Tsarina. Known as the Ice Guard, they’re an elite fighting formation of warrior women, equally skilled with bow and blade. But where they differ significantly from the other Kislevite units we’ve seen in the past is that they’re able to channel the elemental magic of their realm in a similar manner to their Ice Queen – the most powerful practitioner of this unique form of sorcery. Here are some awesome pieces of concept art for the Ice Guard, courtesy of Forge World’s Mark Bedford. Cool, huh? Judging by the enchanted ice that wreaths their blades and arrow tips, we reckon they’ll make for some cold-hearted killers on the battlefield… The Old World is still a long way off, but it certainly makes you wonder what else Kislev might have in store. In any case, if you’d like to learn more about Kislevite culture, be sure to read the Black Library Hall of Famer Riders of the Dead by Dan Abnett. Graeme McNeill’s With Ice and Sword and David Guymer’s Gotrek and Felix novel Kinslayer are also fascinating reads, revealing the fate of Kislev during the apocalyptic End Times. --end--
