Played a game (Bret vs Dwarf) the other day, new guy at the club. So as expected some different understanding of the rules.
Now the situation was a unit of Knights charged the rear of a unit of warriors (hand weapon and shield) he moved the characters (make way) to the rear rank.
My Bret lord issued a challenge, his lord accepted.
Now this is where it gets fuzzy.
We fought the combat - picture the scene, both characters facing off against each other, clash of sword on shield...
However, he wanted to make a parry save as the characters are fighting each other face to face as it were.
Now the unit didn’t get a parry save and that was agreed, but in the challenge he said it was separate. Now I get the image but I don’t believe he was correct but I can’t see anything in challenges to counter this but can in the general combat section.
Cheers
Greg

Fluff has no bearing on the rules. So, you are quite correct: he does not get a parry save. Warhammer is a permissive system: to do something, you need a rule that says you can, [and, unless specifically stated otherwise, normal rules apply.] BRB p. 5 specifies: "All models in a unit must face the same direction." The rules for Making Way and challenge allow you to move a character into base to base contact with an enemy model/character - they do not say you can change orientation. Hence, if the unit is attacked in the flank or rear, the character that moved is also attacked in the flank or rear, and, therefore, does not get the benefit of a parry save.
