Hello all, I am working on getting all of my armies up to at least 2500pts painted and thought it would be fun to share some pics as I go. I have an army of everything except Tomb Kings and Bretonnia. My son had Lizardmen so I will be leave those alone as well just about everything else is a possibility. I may add to armies as a breather between full armies. Last month I did the Painting Pledge on the Square Hammer Facebook group. It was a good way to get motivated. I decided to get started on my Orc army. Orcs are the first army I use the Minwax method on. I was quite pleased with how they turned out. I may try it for other armies in the future. I am definitely going to touch up my 40K Orks with it. This is what I managed to get done. All Da ladz, Warboss Shaz McNasty and his Battle Standard Bearer. Two Shaman, mostly run as a level 4 & 2. Some nice 3rd party Mangler Squigs I picked up on Ebay. Rock Lobbas and gitz 40 Orcs with spears, will probably mostly use them a Big’Unz. 32 Arrer Boyz. 32 Ruglud’s Armoured Orcs. It took a while to get this many and 7 are converted. Ebay prices for Dogs of War units had gotten insane. 50 Black Orcs. These were the first unit I painted in February and before I started using Minwax. I may go back and give them the Minwax treatment, but they are good for now. I wanted to get a new Giant finished too, but time slipped by. As it was, I didn’t get started until half way through February, the wife doesn’t let me take models on vacation I a pleased with this much in 17 Days. For March I am going to try to get more units finished for my Nurgle Daemos, hopefully that will be just as productive.

You did all of that in under a month?!?! That is impressive. That would take me like two years (and I’m not exaggerating).

What is this outrage!!! I recognise an appropriated dwarf grudge thrower when I see one!!! 🤬🤬🤬 (😉).
I have a question. What’s your technique for Minwax? Did you block in colours first and then use it as a wash/sealant?

Did you block in colours first and then use it as a wash/sealant? Yeah, at some point in history I acquired a Rock Lobber with double crew. So I thought it would be fun to give them a stolen stone thrower. Don't worry, my Dwarfs still have a few Stone Throwers left 😁 As for the Minwax, I used their Polyshade Mission Oak. I did base coats some dry brushing here and there, then applied the Minwax by brush, then bases. I like how it turned out. I am definitely going to use it on my beastmen and Ogres when I get around to them. I may go back and hit my Nurgle Daemons with it just to make them pop more. I got the tips from a guy called Commander Cheapskate on YouTube. He has some good videos on painting and some fun battle reports. I have been painting models for over 20 years and it's the best way I have found to get a horde army done fast.

That is a plan far more cunning than your namesake could come up with!

Hey all, Today I thought I would share some pics of my Troll Horde. Originally this project started as a troll horde for my Orc army and it blossomed into an army of it’s own. They ended up being my fall 2019 Project. Throgg's Horde It took a while to get to this point. My original 4 metal Stone Trolls were painted about 20 years ago. I mostly bulked them up with Reaper Bones Cave trolls. I added some variety to them with some extra Ogre bits and some slight arm adjustments. I also used Green Stuff to put noses on all the Reaper Trolls. The Reaper sculpter made them with Pug noses and I didn't care for that. The noses also help them blend in more with the GW models. The Reaper trolls fit well with the GW models. I also picked up an old Blood Bowl troll to act as a kinda troll champion. I know they can’t have them but someone has to look like they are in charge. The guy with the big hammer is from a Dungeon crawler boardgame, I think it’s called Massive Darkness. I just love the model and he fits in well, he is defiantly in charge of this unit. Originally, I didn’t plan on having any River Trolls, but in building the army I stumbled across some good deals on Ebay, so BOOM! We now have another unit. I think I had the most fun with the characters in this army. I wanted models that stood out among a sea of blue/grey. I had always liked the old Confrontation trolls, so I thought they would make good characters. Though I was shocked to see the prices of them online, people want crazy money for them. Fortunatly I found a Cadwallow Miniatures. Through means I don’t want to know they are reproducing much of the old Confrontation catalog. So for a good price and a few weeks through customs, they arrived. Just FYI, be careful cleaning them, they are all lead and weigh a ton. I still need to think up something to go on this banner but this guy was fun to paint. I’m thinking a big question mark would be funny on the banner, basically he forgot why he is important. In games I use this guy as Scyla for an added Leadership boost to the trolls. I thought this model was perfect for Throgg and I’m not a big fan of the GW model. I love the single big eye. I modified it a little. I added a crown from the old 5th ed Azhag model. I also gave him a club from an Ogre Tyrant. When using some Bluetack I tried pose him with that arm raised up, but I found it often got in the way of the model next to him. So when I glued him together I put that arm in a downward pose. That’s Ok, I like that he is leading the charge with his anchor in the air. With all that Stupidity around the army needs a BSB. The other big guy was originally going to be the BSB, but I read some good advice that Scyla could really help a Troll Army. This model happened by accident just messing around with some bits. He slowly took shape and I am happy with the results. For the banner I thought what else could you expect from a troll. I usually play him as an Exalted Champion on a Palanquin. After the nose job. For a sorcerer I wanted a troll to convert but I couldn’t find a model I was happy with. In messing around with some bits I came up with this. I was inspired by the old Arcane Fulcrums. I wanted something that looked like a sorcerer on a tornado of souls. It was also a good use of all those clipped off troll hands. I was very pleased with how this turned out. I usually play him as a Nurgle Sorcerer on a Palanquin, but in the right situation he could also be used as a Tzeetch Disc. For some added muscle the army needed a Shaggoth and a Chimera. I consider this one of my lucky finds. I snagged this complete METAL Shaggoth on Ebay for $15. He was only listed as “Chaos Monster”, a nice find. I came up with the color scheme on the Dragon Ogres first and then applied it to the big guy. I don't care for the GW Chimera model and I love the Jabberslyth, so he makes a good stand in. I think he fits in well with the trolls. Almost forgot, the Dragon Ogres. The newer plastic models are nice but these old school metal models have so much character. Last but not least are my old school orges. They go well with Thogg's army. I probably painted these guys over 20 years ago. They could use an update, but I'll keep them this way for nostalgia sake. I have a standard to add to them that has been waiting years for paint, maybe next month. So that’s the army for now. I have a few more trolls in the bits bin that I may add in sometime and possibly another sorcerer. I like keeping the army as mostly monsters, so there will be no warriors in this army. Though from time to time some trolls may appear in my Orc army.

Great read, enjoyed the detailed account of how the troll horde came to be.

Great read, enjoyed the detailed account of how the troll horde came to be. Thanks. I get a lot of inspiration from reading blogs and I just hope I can pass on some inspiration to others. In the past I have not been very good at doing progress blogs. I am much better at posting once the whole army is finished. I just have lots of pictures because while I work on a project I am constantly texting stuff to my friend to see what he thinks

I woke up early yesterday and I needed to paint something. I was going to take a break from Orcs for a while but, it hit me that they needed more variety. So I present Azhag and his Orcish Air Force! I really like the 6th ed Wyvern. They are just beefy looking. Azhag was fun to paint. As with all GW models from this period they went a bit overboard with the skulls, 17 to be precise. I do like this model a lot. The only thing I don't care for is the weird little puppet tied to the banner pole, it is just really out of place on the model. If I had noticed it before I started painting I would have clipped it out. I left one banner off on purpose. 1) it looked too busy and 2) one less thing to paint. Usually all my orcs have red eys. However I give all the orc casters glowy yellow eyes, as if the magic changes them, Azhag is no exception 😈

Continuing on, today I would like to share some pics of my Chaos Dwarfs. I love these guys, one of my favorite armies. To me they tick off all the boxes, everything there is to love about Dwarfs plus magic, monsters, and big guys. I started this army around the beginning of 7th. It’s all made out of the classic 5th ed big hat models (really the only way to go). In 8th I play them as the Legion of Azgorh, so the army is currently built to that. The painted army so far. Two units of 18 old blunderbusses. I still need to glue some shields on the back unit. I field these guys as Fireglaives since I like their rules better. 30 Infernal Guard with Great Weapons. These guys usually form the hearty center of my army. Some Hobgobbos with bows. These guys were painted back in 7th when they could have units of 10. In the Legion of Azgorh they have to be 20+, so on the rare occasion that I field them I just combine them. Some day I’ll paint up some more to make two units in the same colors. The Bull Centaurs, one of favorite units. These guys are a lot of fun to play. I need to paint up some more soon. Here is a good shot of my war machines. So far, I have 2 Death Rockets and a Dreadquake painted. I finished the Ogre over the winter. It’s about time, the poor guys has been sitting around for a few years unpainted. My BSB and Sorcerer Prophet. The Sorcerer is the old Astrogoth model. It’s a shame he didn’t get rules in the Legion of Azgorh, but if you play around with the magic items you can get pretty close to what he used to be. Two Castellan (chaos dwarf heroes). The guy with the eye patch is an old unit champion, but I think the model has so much character that I elevated him to Hero leve. Two Daemonsmith Sorcerers. The one on the left is converted out of a Bull Centaur standard and the one on the right is converted out of a Blunderbuss. That gives me a lot to work with for most size games but when I get back around to them there are still plenty of Big Hats to work on in their biz bin. Some day when I get around to it, I would like to try a list with a Lamassu mounted Sorcerer leading and army of Bull Centaurs. I have another 30 some Bull Centaurs so, I think I can pull it off. Will it win, probably not, but it will be fun as HELL!
