That's an awesome skeleton regiment you got there and I really dig the liche!

Thanks for the kind words fellows! NaitsabesI can see the resemblance. She might have overdid it with the diet though. That windblown robe flowing to her right side makes her a bit hard to rank up. I think I will need to make an empty base to sit beside her in the regiment, or she'll be forever stuck on the right side of whatever unit she's in. I might fit a small familiar on the empty base. Time to dig through the drawers!

Hi guys! A bit of a slowdown on my side when it comes to the skellies, but I did manage to finish that liche I've shown you earlier: A lot of fun to paint these older, hand sculpted miniatures. I went for a more striking purple on the robe and a bit of freehand on the hem. This took a couple of attempts and the paint is a bit thick in some areas but I'm happy with how he turned out. Or 'she' rather as most of my gaming friends claim that it's an undead lady in a purple dress. A female liche is kind of cool sounding actually so I may roll with this idea when I write some more fluff for the army. Now back to get the last of her skeleton minions done. Stay tuned. That's what my purple robes for Dark Elves are meant to look like, I never get them looking that good though!

I'm Normally not a fan of Purple on Models...But this purple is really well done and works wonderfully with the bone and gold you've used... it suits her perfectly!! Also i LOVE your bases!! Cheers, Mithril

The liche you painted up looks great and think the use of purple for robe works really well. Can’t wait to see the last of the skeletons painted up.

Thanks a lot guys!!! Yeah I do like the purple as well. I was hoping to steer away from it as a colour scheme for my army (it’s pretty overdone), but I think I will have to incorporate it somehow. Perhaps I’ll do the black knights and grave guard in purples, when I get to work on them. That would set them apart nicely from the lesser skeletal regiments. Speaking of which, I am almost done with the 60 man horde and boy am I happy about it. This really should not have taken me THIS long with contrast paints to boot. A speed painter I am not. I will make some full unit pictures once the final bits are added (working on the large tree unit filler now). Here is the other old metal command group though: The banner bearer still needs his banner obviously. In the past he carried a paper flag which was photocopied from the old undead book and painted. I am tempted to utilize some of these old designs, despite them looking like 80’s metal album covers. It’s probably nostalgia clouding my judgment but they just seem so charming: I do want to transfer the design onto a plastic background however, to make it less flimsy. I’ve decided to incorporate the banner from the plastic grave guard set and fit it to the metal banner pole. I will cut and drill away the beam and the top bit, which will hopefully leave me with just the cloth itself. It should be easier to paint it on itself as well. Here are some test designs I’ve been testing, using the templates from the old army book. I hope this works!

Hello folks! Some more slow-as-always progess on the undead has been achieved. First of all I've managed to complete the large 9-man tree unit filler: I think this took longer than actually painting 9 skeletons with bases, which defeats the purpose of a unit filler probably, but at least it will break up the 'sea of bones' a bit. The scythe wielding skellie in the front is a metal harlequin skeleton horseman I believe, but he was a good fit with these old chunky minis. Had a bit of an issue with the glossy matt varnish again (as mentioned in my other thread). Will be trying some alternatives to vallejo matt soon. No pics from the back as they've all turned out crap. I think I need to invest in a light tent, as pics in my current flat tend to come out rather dark unfortunately. I will get some proper photos taken soon, when I complete the unit. Which is soon I hope as these arrived some time ago: MDF magnetic movement trays! The future is now. I always crafted movement trays myself, though I've never attempted to try making them magnetic. After a lot of research I figured it would probably be smarter to just order them from a local guy and save myself the hassle. Pretty pleased with them, very sturdy stuff. Perhaps even too sturdy, the all-metal grave guard regiment I am planning will probably punch a hole in my gaming table, if I ever drop them. I am in the process of texturing and painting them. The finish line for the skeleton horde is near!

And another quick update. I completely forgot to show off the banner for the skeleton unit: I tried to follow one of the designs I've shown you earlier as closely as I could, but it's pretty tricky. I attempted transfering it onto the plastic by using tracing paper but to no avail. Had to freehand it all. Not certain if I will follow the trend for the other banners in the army, as its bloody time consuming. It also looks rather cartoonish, but I think I am okay with it. Happy that the banner from the grave guard kit was a good fit for the banner pole.
