Just curious what people think were some of the best/most powerful builds/armies in 8th?

Immediately spring to mind:
- White Lions or Phoenix Guard with BotWD and Archmage. - 50+ Skaven Slaves

The two that came to my mind are already listed above, so I suppose this is an additional vote for them.
Nurgle daemon prince and Tzeentch character with 1+ armor and 3+ ward re-rolling 1s.
As a traditional dwarf player who really likes their war machines with runes banner of the world dragon was also annoying, but lower on my personal list than the above two.

Bret Lord - Swift Slaying blade, Gromil great helm, Dragonbane gem Shield, lance, horse & Heroism.
1++, Bret Ward, 2++ vs. Fire 4 ASF I6 Attacks with HKB (Lance on the charge).
I often played with Beast magic, aiming to get Savage Beasts off - 7 S7 ASF attacks!

Curious, a LOT of the responses here are characters. Is kitting out a character the most important aspect of list building? I get massive blocks of good units, but I am curious what army compositions end up being the power builds. With no new releases for Fantasy, curious how the "meta" settles, for lack of a better term.

Massive units of 30+ Chaos Warriors with some Skullcrushers and/or pretty much any other unit from the last Warriors of Chaos book except Marauders - the latter are probably the one thing in the 8th Edition list that isn't OP. Ridiculous.

3x min units of Chosen within range of Warshrine to maximize free Daemon Prince potential.

Probably not - but for Brets a lot of the time the Characters do the heavy lifting, and carry the army/make them competitive. In fact, I'd prob go as far to say, without the HKB FAQ, brets couldn't compete.... But, characters are the most customisable, or offer certain bonuses (See High elf Sea Captain, or Daemon Heralds) - so when talking about "builds", I think of characters first.
