Back in 1997 me and a friend walked into Rarities gift shop and bought our first miniatures. He bought high elves and I bought wood elves. Neither one of us stuck with our initial choices but the hook was set.

Started playing 4th edition, and if memory serves there wasn't a current Brittonian army book at the time. I loved knights in shining armor, so I "settled" for Empire, as they had the Reiksguard, Knights Panther, Knights of the Blazing sun, and Knights of the White Wolf, so I thought that would be enough to satisfy me. 25ish years later and Empire is still my largest and probably favorite army, though now it's the warrior priests and witch hunters that I really get a kick out of. The fifth edition starter set came with Brittonia and lizardmen, I believe. At that point I thought about starting Brittionia, but didn't for some reason. Still haven't to this day, but not sure why, I still really like their aesthetic and the fluff around them. I have five armies, each of them appealing for different reasons, but perhaps a sixth will need to be started some day.

I started back in 2002 I think so 6ed. In that time me and a couple of friends played a lot of magic the gathering( I should have kept that collection if I see which price they get now for those cards). I was also into modeling. When I was in my local toy store I was drawn to a dark corner of the store. In that corner there stood some regiment boxes of warhammer fantasy. Between them stood a box of orcs, since I played most of the time with goblin decks I was drawn to this box and I bought it. I still had no clue that it was a game but when I told it to some of the older people of my gaming club they told me it was a game. I got a few demo games and I was hooked on the game. So the box of orcs slowly expanded into a 2000pts army. After my second tournament, I more and more went the way of full goblin armies. So greenskins where my first army and they are still more or less my only army. Trough the years I borrowed and played with different armies but nothing excited me as much as a bunch of goblins that are going wild.
Just last year and this year I picked up 2 new armies: ogre kingdoms and dark elves, mainly because it was a good deal. The ogres will probably end up as mainly mercenary forces for my greenskins. About the dark elves I'm not sure, I bought them but chances are high that I sell them if I get a good price.
My greenkin collection grew to more then 25 000 points, I can field every option multiple times(except the forge world options). I keep adding to my collection of greenskins because I like painting and growing the army so much.
Cheers, WGG

- Warriors of Chaos (Hordes of Chaos at the time)

- Tomb Kings
- Chaos Dwarfs
I still own the four WFB armies, but I sold the 40k ones a while back.

Nice work on the 25k points! I love huge armies myself, I started with the high elves/O&G starter box but never expanded the o&g but did expand on the HE, then when I grew up I had to sell them all too fix my car in a pinch lol then started empire after I had more money again and it's been growing ever since, somewhere around 40k points I think now, but I've got rather large armies of pretty much everything now.

After the obligatory Heroquest hook I found advanced Heroquest in a local stockist. Then 2nd ed. Bloodbowl. Then my cousin took me to my first GW where she bought me Skarlocks Wood Elf Archers (this was 3rd edition). After that I was hooked but my first army was Orcs and Goblins. Bulked out with most of the regiments of renown they sold at the time and a Marauder army deal. At that point WD always had new store opening adverts complete with loads of money off vouchers and special deals on the day, so we used to trawl our way round these (I think this was one of their early expansion drives). When 4th ed dropped I started to expand my undead and wood elf collection to be able to field them as full armies (whilst picking up other bits here and there). I took a break 6 months into 6th and came back in 8th. Never got rid of anything (bar my Epic stuff and stupidly my warmaster bits). Now I have armies for: Vampire Orcs and Goblins Beastmen High Elves Bretonnians Wood Elves Chaos Warriors Lizardmen Dwarves Empire (which is mostly still in boxes...).
I of course also still have every single army/rulebook for every edition for 3rd to 8th + most of the expansions and a good amount of the novels. I am missing most of the ‘lore books’, things like the heraldry books and the 4 chaos books etc.

My first Warhammer Fantasy Army was wood elves back in the late 90s. Lost that army after moving so had to rebuild it from scratch when I restarted my hobby

My first army was the Dwarfs, and they’re still one of my favourites!
I started in the 7th Edition era by buying Battle for Skull Pass (still the best value Warhammer boxed game of either game system I think), then my uncle gave me some 4th Edition Hammerers and Bugman’s Brewers when he found out I was starting Dwarfs, and I got another box of Dwarf Warriors from my dad.
Twelve years later and I own the following Fantasy armies: Dwarfs Greenskins Lizardmen High Elves Skaven
I also have the following 40K armies: Tyranids (my first army for this game, which I started a couple of years later) Necrons Orks Dark Eldar Chaos Marines

These are great nostalgia reads Orcs and Goblins for me. Back then though I didn't understand that Fantasy and 40k were different universes so my first unit was a box of monopose gretchin.....which I painted straight onto the bare plastic.

Oh wow... trip down memory lane! first official army was Imperial Navy for Battlefleet Gothic... figured I could build up my paint skills that way. I soon followed it up with 7th ed. Warriors of Chaos. Since then I haven't stopped...
