How many of you create background fluff for your General or your Army? What about for each of your units? I tend to dive in pretty deep to the backgrounds, motivations and even heraldry for each of my characters and units. I found a nifty little rpg site for creating Heraldry for your shields and banners: worldspinner.com/heraldry/device_editor/It’s not the most complete heraldry/coat of arms creator, but it’s still pretty cool with many options. They even mention the SCA of which I am a member (Richard of Ardgour-West Kingdom). It’s great for Empire, Bretonnian, and other Euro-centric armies. But it also works for others as well, Nippon, DoW and more. Using it, I created a flag for my Empire city - Greifswald in Averland. i.imgur.com/FUAMeZZ.jpg I also created a banner for my greatsword unit. How deep do you dive into your army’s background? ~Maleagant

Nice find! I myself tend to delve fairly deep into the backstory of my army. Every character is given their own story and the same is true for the regiments. I've even gone so far as to give some of the individual models in certain regiments their own background.

That’s a nifty link, thanks for sharing. I’m a big fan of naming all my characters and building a back story (no matter how uninspired it might be). Most of my dwarf and Beastmen battle rep’s have opening snippets of story (and occasionally closing bits too). The dwarves have their own hold and I even have designs for it and the unique defences for the main gate (in my head as sadly my drawing ability is not yet up to the task...). The Beastmen story is more an onrunning rivalry, lose alliance and series of mishaps between Khazbar the Magnificent (shaman) and Bashor the Bloody (beastlord). It part of the fun of building an army and also one of the reasons that I have a home grown space Marine chapter rather than using one of the existing ones.

I do 'backstory lite' armies and stuff. As in, there is a backstory, but generally not hugely detailed. Just a basic overview of, say, why my Skaven are white-furred and the like.

I required everyone to name their general and gave bonuses if they wrote more back story. Every week I wrote up a little news letter for everyone to keep tabs with the goings-on in the campaign. By the end, everyone had come up with hero names, rivalries, adding enemy heads to their units, etc. It was incredibly fun.

I’ve played my own Chapter since the very beginning (1987) - The Archangels. I have my own site for them: archangelschapter.webs.com/
