2 x 5? Enough to harras and annoy, and then use as chaff.

I’ll bow to wiser heads on this as although I own 15, I’ve yet to use them in 8th. As DiscoQing says, multiple units of 5 seems to be the general consensus.

Ambushers makes them less generally useful than they should be. 10 is a good number to have; 15 should be the most you need.
I've got 20-30ish, but only because I had some extras I bought to convert to Dark Riders, and then ended up converting back when the 8th ed Dark Rider models came out.

I feel like a pair of fast cav 5 man units is a good standby in any army, however with Wood Elves you have a lot of options for good ranged firepower and annoying asshole harassers. So really what you are paying for is ambushers.
10 is probably the safe choice, but I suppose it kind of depends on what you are trying to do with the rest of your army. If you have waywatchers and deepwood scouts all over the place 0-5 might be fine. If you aren't using those I could see using up to 20.

I have used 30 in great success. 3 units of 10 in 2500p. It’s full evasive though. Fun for you but a lot of chasing for your opponent.

I’ve got 21 right now, but there is a good opportunity to get another box of them and I wasn’t sure if another box would even be worth it. Thanks guys!

Have you tried 2x10 hagbane tips and then fill out the rest with glade guard. Remember to play for a long game so you have time for the ambush rule to help you out.

I have not. But that’s primarily due to the fact that they aren’t all built and I haven’t had a game in a year. I’m moving soon to where I will have plenty of dudes to fight against. Looking forward to more games.

Right now I run two units of 5. I have some more waiting to be assembled since they are so squishy I like the idea of 2x6 or 3x6.

I run two units of 6 with Trueflight shafts. That way they can start shooting as soon as they show up, without penalty, at whatever's within range and immediately start seriously harassing. Having two units allows you to concentrate on what machine hunting, and units of 6 will allow you to maximize attacks against them (AB p.110). Also, breaking them up into two units, won't break your back if you lose one for whatever reason.
