Kings of War are shortly to release a Man O War style game in November. 4 Races at launch, Human & Orcs in the box and dwarves and Tomb King equivalent shortly after. It’s meant to be based on Warlord game’s Black Seas ruleset (of which I have no knowledge). www.manticgames.com/news/armada-your-questions-answered/

Dreadfleet 2.0, with more than just a boxset coming! I'm especially interested to see that Mantic are doing the opposite of what GW are doing and making friends with other companies and borrowing their rulesets rather than trying to outcompete them and ban usage of their miniatures and rules instore. I like Mantic's mindset as it cuts out the need to either make up another set of rules or steal other companies' rules in a cloak-and-dagger fashion. Shame we can't see any of the Empire of Dust minis but I'm especially pleased to see they are one of the starting factions, and that Mantic are giving their version of Tomb Kings more love than GW ever did with the original (who always played second fiddle to Vampire Counts). Let's hope at some point they make some more minis for them in the KoW main game! The only thing I'm sceptical about is that the ships will be resin - will it be as expensive as Finecast and Forge World are?

The main box (with mat, 2 fleets etc), is £75 retail but I’ve seen it at around £55 from FLGS. Additional main ‘flagships*’ are around £12-15 and the booster fleets (4 ships) and starter fleets (3 ships, 1 of which is the flagship) are around £24-30). *I’m not actually sure they are called the flagship but it seems to be the best way to describe it.

That's decent, I've looked it up on their site and the prices are all pretty affordable (even £75 is much closer to the GW starter sets of old and is much better than the >£100 boxed games GW now churn out). The only thing that does cost rather much is the playmat which is considerably more expensive than the ship sets, but it isn't vital to gameplay - if you really want it you might as well buy the starter box which gives you two starting navies for the price of 1 and the rulebook and tokens thrown in for free. Shame the Dwarf and Empire of Dust stuff isn't coming just yet, but maybe that'll appear in a couple of months.

Some of the ship designs look good to me, others don't. I can't get my head around that super stupid "crusher" on one of the Orc ships.
Also: resin only. A big no-no for me.
Nice concept, some good ideas, ruined in implementation - Mantic 101.

Nice concept, some good ideas, ruined in implementation - Mantic 101. Pretty much what GW does 90% of the time In all honesty it looks decent to me, I'd rather have seen plastic ships but resin is better than metal, as long as it is decently sculpted and priced.
