Hi everyone, its me again, back after a long absence that I only need indicate the world around us to explain. However, despite the fact that our world has been blessed by Grandfather Nurgle, I have still managed to move successfully.
However as I was helping my GF put together her elves I realized that I didn't really know how to run the escalation league I have planned. I was just going to do it as a mini event between the two of us, a game every few weeks probably, but at least something to get the Warhammer fantasy blood pumping.
But I ask to the wise old Longbeards that grumble to this forum, what is the best point level to start out with, and how much should we move our armies up each match?
(Bonus question, as I am starting a new army for this and going to pick up my starter box next week, Lizardmen or counts as empire Japanese force?)

welcome back, Alan!
I would start with 500pts. How fast you move up depends on how fast you can paint. maybe 250? I would require that the units stay the same (though can be increased in size and of course you can add units). That way you get nice grudges going if e.g. that same spearmen unit champion repeatedly does heroic deeds. And don't overthink that bonus question. you know that eventually you will do both anyway

I am just curious, but what miniatures are you using for your Empire/Japanese army? Mostly Warlord games, but also some Test of Honor mixed in. I also grabbed a Guildball character for my mage, so a little of everything really.

I always think that narrative driven escalations are fun. For example if you meet a campaign objective you can "buy" 250pts of artillery or cavalry. To me thats a more fun and varied way of building armies.

I would start with 500pts. How fast you move up depends on how fast you can paint. maybe 250? I would require that the units stay the same (though can be increased in size and of course you can add units). That way you get nice grudges going if e.g. that same spearmen unit champion repeatedly does heroic deeds. That's the way I'd suggest doing it, with the addition of allowing characters to be upgraded from Hero -> Lord. So an Empire Captain who serves you well through your smaller games could be promoted to General later on. You can add all sorts of fun rules to it, things like units gaining "veteran status" (+1 to a random characteristic), characters getting injured (-1 to a random characteristic), and objectives like Greg suggested -- however, you can end up spending more time planning the escalation campaign than actually partaking in it, with the whole thing collapsing under its complexity. It's really up to you how simple / complex you make it, but if you or your girlfriend haven't played for a while, I'd suggest keeping it as simple as possible. EDIT: That said, it's nice to be painting similar stuff at the same time - e.g. both add a unit of heavy cavalry for the next game, or a monster, warmachine etc.
