The opportunity for a game arose the other day and since myself and Mr Blank finally had our armies covered gloriously in paint it seemed like the perfect time to try our new toys!
I have been buying up and painting these Chaos Dwarfs for something like 6 years now so it was great to have them on the table!
I went with a an Earthshaker heavy list because they are by far the coolest thing in the book and also with a large unit of Blunderbusses because I was eager to give these a try. After buying these and a Sorcerer Prophet there was very little wiggle room left with the points! My general idea was to hopefully Quake and Ashstorm the enemy into a standstill whilst blasting them to smithereens with everything else. After the discussion in the Chaos Dwarf Magic Item tactics thread I was wanting to give the Chalice of Blood & Darkness a go since it seemed incredibly nasty.
My list was:
Sorcerer Prophet on Great Taurus (Chalice of Blood & Darkness, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield, Level 4)
Castellan Battle Standard (Talisman of Endurance, Enchanted Shield, Potion of Speed, Pistol)
30 HW&S Infernal Guard (Full Command)
29 Blunderbuss Infernal Guard (Full Command)
30 Hobgoblin Cutthroats (Bows, Full Command)
5 Bull Centaurs (Champion, Standard)
Earthshaker Cannon (Slave Ogre)
Earthshaker Cannon (Slave Ogre)
I was very concerned at the small number of things I was putting down on the table but I guess that's the O&G in me, the army seemed so small!
Mr Blank went with something along the lines of: (he can probably post a better list)
Morathi
Supreme Sorceress (Sacrificial Dagger)
Master BSB
Assassin
Assassin
39 Spearmen (Full Command)
24 Witch Elves (Full Command)
28 Executioners (Full Command)
20 Black Guard (Full Command)
Kharibdyss
Bolt Thrower
Bolt Thrower
He was pretty limited in his choices by what he actually had painted.
We opted for a straight forward battle line whilst we got to grips with our new armies. The scenery roll came up quite light and he rolled the side with the hill. For spells I managed not to roll Ashstorm which was most annoying! I traded away Hell Hammer for Breath of Hatred.
He chose to go with 2 Dark & 2 Shadow with Morathi, he was hoping to make me take Initiative tests, but unfortunately for him he came up Enfeebling Foe and Steed of Shadows which he traded away for Melkoths, and Soul Stealer and Doombolt for his Dark spells. His Sorceress rolled Word of Pain, Blade Wind and traded something for Power of Darkness
I deployed my Blunderbusses around the central bottleneck along with the Infernal Guard. I placed my Bull Centaurs on the flank where there was some space to exploit and the Hobgoblins on the other side where there were Witch Elves they could ping arrows at then hopefully delay. He deployed mainly on my right with his big blocks in the middle and his WE and Kharibdyss on the flank
