THIS JUST IN: Panduit brand duct cover is perfect for DIY flex movement trays.
Specifically, PANC3LG6-F. The width is perfect for 4 ranks deep of 20mmx20mm infantry. You can buy a 6ft stick of this stuff, and then cut it to 100mm (5x) wide. That makes a modular 5Fx4R movement tray for 20 miniatures. One stick (for, like $10) netted me 15’ish movement trays. I did a bunch for 20x20 infantry, but did a few for 40mmx40mm Tree Kin, arranged 3 wide and 2 deep. The actual product is used in electrical control panels for wire routing and such. If you have an electrical distributor near you, ask them if they stock this. ValueTown! I am getting a few more sticks on Monday to make movement trays for my Skeleton Archers [Tomb King flavor] that deploy 10 wide x 4 deep and act as Mage Bunkers.
The reason I like the Panduit cover so much is that it has a tiny lip to it and keeps your miniatures snugly tucked in formation; while at the same time it is very low profile so it won’t throw off tabletop measurements like some other movement trays (that can flex ~1/4” or more, which can lead to debate in game). Anyway, I am thrilled with how easy this was.
Saturday morning Hobbyist WIN! The type C3 Panduit is good for 4 deep 20mm, and 2 deep 40mm, as well as "pretty decent" for 3 deep 25mm INF (think, Chaos Warriors). I will try other sizes for 75mmD Monstrous Cavalry and 100mmD Chariots, etc. More to come....
